Thanks to all who responded. I'd like to fully restore it, maybe do a TII conversion at some point. I have a bit of a checklist of things that need to get done and it's almost time to start. Warm weather can't come soon enough.

I like the digital stuff although I've had to make some repairs. Put new switches in the navigator and I have yet to see if I can fix the digital dash. The radio is surprisingly pretty good sounding. I guess those Infinity units were really high quality (don't think I've had them in any of my other Mopars, oddly enough). The car still has some ummph even with just over 102K on it, just needs some standard stuff from the period like rack & pinion leak repair, rear quarter motor replacement, etc. All in good time.

It's great to see that the community is still going strong. When I sold my Shelby (still regret it) back in '99 or so, it looked like things were fizzling out (SDAC, for example). But it's good to be back and I'd be on a quest for an '89 white Daytona Shelby if I had the room to store it. I figure the Lebaron is the best of both worlds - the classic 2.2 Turbo and the drop-top for these great New England summers. Glad to see everybody.

The infinity speakers have an internal amp. They sound for a while just don't put to much base through them lol.You are going to have a blast in that car.Especially once you start modding it.

The best factory speakers i have found are the Infinity convertible speakers. I tried LHS door speakers in the back and it just blasted the crap out of them since they were not meant to hold that much bass. I have a set of infinities in my car and it sounds pretty nice. I also suggest running some speaker wire through the top of your dash and running tweaters if you dont have some already in there. When you have the top down it makes a big differences. I have done this to both my barons and sound quality is very nice even with a cheap set. The best thing to do would find some infinity tweaters from like a newyorker or something and they will hook into the factory harness and they sound pretty good so you dont have to hack up your factory harness and remove the radio and run speaker wire etc.

I put infinity tweaters in the dash of my LeBaron. They came out of a junkyard GTC. Definately helps the sound with the top down. I was still running Infinity speakers in the door up until last summer, but the back ones kept dying on me. It isn't so much the bass as it is the power. They just weren't meant to take very much. Behind the factory infinity CD player they did fine. But my aftermarket radio was killing them. I put some high end Alpines in the back and never had a problem hearing the radio (with the top down) after that. All of my speakers, including aftermarket, have come from the junkyard though. I've snagged $60-$100 sets of speakers for only $10.

did you have to custom fit the back speakers????? I can't seem to find any good speakers with good bass to fit back there and not interfere with the top.

No, I just used 6.25" Alpines. They fit in the hole fine. I just had to mount them creatively because the alignment holes on the speaker were wider apart than the ones in the panel. But they sound decent. You will never get the bass out of a 6.25 speaker that you can out of say a 6x9. But these do alright. I don't have the car here right now, but I want to say they're 180W units. The fronts are Blaupunkt 120W. I'm not a huge fan of those, but they were given to me. They sound okay. I tilt the power slightly to the rear since those are the better speakers. And I'm using Infinity tweaters in the dash. Only blown one of those so far. I have a stack of them in a drawer somewhere.

Oh, and I will say if you go big power on the speakers, get an aftermarket head unit. The factory Infinity systems are nice, but they don't do the higher-end speakers justice. They just weren't designed for it.

I just bought a set of alpine 5 1/2 units. They are going in the back tommorow as i am tired of those speakers sounding like shit. They should do alright. They will mount in the factory holes which is rather nice. I have the new sets of infinity tweaters out of an LHS. They sound pretty tight and have excellent sound quality. Not to mention i haven't been able to blow them yet. Eventually i will invest in some nice speakers for the back or find some nice speakers in my yard for that car. I have the Laser now so thats the next car to get outfitted with a sound system. I have a whole JL audio system to put into that car. I am still unsure if i wanna put the 12' Jl w2's back there. Idk if i want that much bump of wieght. We bought the car for 200 bucks with 18' rims new rubber and a full JL audio system so i saw it as a pretty good gain. We will see whats gonna happen to that car.

The rear speakers should only be used for fill purposes anyways for music listening. I even have mine biased toward the front so there isn't as much rear speaker sound.

I'm using Infinity Reference 5.25" components up front and Memphis Audio 5x7's in the rear powered by a Pinoneer amp: 60X4 RMS. The component tweeters are in the stock dash location('88 car, so right at the glass and they're balanced fairly well that way). It's loud enough to make you def and it sounds really good(as in clear with no distortion and all mid/upper ranges are balanced nicely). I'm using a Kicker CVS 10" DVC sub in a premade box powered by a Rockford amp: 600x1 RMS @ 2ohm...IIRC. I don't even have the gain turned half way up on that thing and it's almost too loud! At times I even have to turn the bass down more!

You should not rely on your mid/high speakers to produce your bass. I used to do that and I was sorely dissapointed. It does nothing but make those speakers distort at higher volume levels and that makes the music sound like crap and it ruins the speakers. The bass level on my head unit is at 2. I don't need it any higher becuase the sub takes care of the rest!

well I fit some kenwood 3 ways in the back. The sound pretty good. And I get to put the top on the red baron tomorrow finally. Also since its warm I am going to try to put the headlight mtor, the front tires, fix my charging problem, and hopefully get her road worthy by this weekend.

If you're referring to '88 and '89 models, it's probably because the rear speakers have actual Infinity EMIT ribbon tweeters - those are incredibly accurate and hard to blow. You can also find those tweeters in Chrysler/Infinity minivan dash speakers in '88 and '89, but the bass is a bit sloppier due to the woofer magnets and voice coils being so small on them.

The downside to the EMIT tweeters is they have a very high crossover point making them ill suited to the two way design of these speakers (not to mention expensive). That's why Harman-Motive stopped making them for Chrysler as soon as they found a way to do cone and dome tweeters in those speakers.

My '88 New Yorker daily driver has the EMIT models in all 4 stock positions with a subwoofer. Good golly does it ever sound good in there. I keep wanting to turn it up and up and up until the sub amp shuts down

I dropped a full infinity system out of a lhs and the convertible speakers and I am not complaining about the sound at all. Is there anyway to prime a top? Reason i ask is I put a new top on my cAr and I filled the top pump with ATF and now the top refuses to go up and down. The motor makes lots noise and the top is nigh impossible to lift and put u by myself
