Wow, that to me sounds like a good deal. Although here in FL it would be a hard sell due to no A/C. Then again, I didn't have A/C for about 4 years until my '88 Shelby Z...it works!

my cars always receive a/c. Not that I need it but it is nice. That's my next thing to domis to put a compressor and lines on my convertible and charge her up. The laser just needs charged after i get it running. We have a ton of used r12 in our recycler/charging machine at the yard

The R12....that stuff is like gold! It works SO much better in the older TD's!!!

we have about 3-4 bottles full. That stuff is a lot colder in our cars then the r134a. Its because the r12 is denser. So it doesn't leak out the lines as much as r134a.

Well, it actually has to do with the chemical properties of the stuff...being able to expand and condense faster to take advantage of the work being done to it better, but in the end, yes, it does work a LOT better becuase those sytems were desgined for that chemical. The newer 134 systems are pretty good themselves and are able to use that chemical pretty efficiently.

I beleive the 134 leaking out through the lines is a myth IIRC. If the lines are old, then yes, I can see that. However, new lines should not have this issue as they use a teflon core IIRC along with other types of sheilding materials to prevent exactly what you describe. Worn seals and the fact that the older systems weren't desinged for that chemical are the main reasons for leakdown and/or poor performance of 134 in the older R12 systems.

OK, I need to turn off my engineering thought process for a while...sorry...

So what's the difference in an XE and an XT? My 85 Laser on pg 2 Has XT emblems, but insurance co says it's an XE.Is the XT the "racer" and XE luxo? Mine has Digi Dash, voice Command, power everything ,leather, trip navigator, turbo auto.
