GLHS Centurion II rim inserts. Painted?

Hi All,
This may be a dumb question, but are the GLHS Centrion II rim inserts painted a silver color or just plain rough metal. I assume it's just unpainted.
I'm in the process of stripping the clear off my rims and installing new tires. After getting the clear off, I saw how much worse the inserts looked. I'm ready to go at them with a tooth brush and some rubbing or polishing compound.

i believe the 1987 Cent II wheels on the GLHS were not painted at all, they may have received clear coat though......i think the CSX that year got black paint on the inserts on the Cent II wheel.

GLHS wheels did not have any paint. The CSX Centurions definitely did have black inserts though.
