Hi All,
Is there any good spray can clear coat I can use on my Centurion II's? I'm stripping the clear right now and would like to protect them. As it is, I sprayed some aircraft paint remover stuff on the rims and it took the clear off really fast. I then grabbed a cloth and hit them with "Mothers". the result was too shiny. I want these to look a little more stock. I figure if I just strip, wash with soapy water and reclear, they should look pretty good. The rims are in pretty good shape right now. In the future, I'll get them professonally restored. For right now, the clear looks bad because they're 20 years old.
Thanks

Thanks Todd,
I'll look in to getting some of that stuff.
As it is, I stripped a couple rims tonight and made a web page to show them off. Click here for all the pictures.>>> Centurion II's.
Keep in mind, these were done with no polish or buffing or wax.
I'll have a before picture tomorrow. I have more rims to do.

Those look pretty good from where I'm sitting
I wonder if that would work for the round centers, or if it would destroy them.
I know what I'm doing the next chance I get! Shiny Pizzas!

here are some crab wheels i did and finished w/ clear. down fall of clear coat on aluminum is it flakes during mounting the tire, wheel weight or debris. I know a guy that has clear powder coating, but it looks peely. polishing them and using no chemicals to clean them and coat them w/ a petrolium based tire dressing to protect them. My GLHS never see's rain or anything but nice weather.

Best Aluminum polish I've EVER seen---Ragman's Metal Polish-- 419-668-4288 Norwalk,Ohio
after polishing put Rain-x on them it lasts aLOOOOOng time! POR also has a clear urethane finish for aluminum, also PPG has an aluminum clearcoat DAU75 but not in spray cans.Wheel repair people use PPG Strato clear, but I don't know how it lasts on Alum wheels.

In time, I'm going to make a tool to spin some rims so I can sand them and give it that "Lathe" look. I polished a couple Pizza's that way a few years ago. Amazing how fast you can get them nice and shiny. I'd do that in a second now, but I want the Centurions to look stock and polishing them like a mirror isn't the look I'm after. I may just leave the rims the way they are for right now. I need them for a car show later this weekend. I'll just have to keep them waxed.
I have an extra set of the II's that I'm going to put on our Horizon. Those are so bad that I'll spin them and give them the high polish treatment.

I am going to try out POR-15 and their Glisten PC, it is a clear coat for wheels too. Shouldn't be too bad.

I tried spraying one rim. Luckily, it was one of my "other" Centurion II's. I left the other 4 clear, or should I say "clearless". The spray didn't look all that great. The problem was the fact that the surface wasn't flat. If I were to do it again, I'd block off the insert holes. Otherwise, you get a bit of turbulance. I had shiny spots and dull spots. Plus, there was a bit of dust that the turbulance stired up. After that, I didn't want to take a chance and not be able to do the next 4 perfectly. As long as I keep them clean and coated with some kind of wax, I should be OK. In time, I want to get them professonally restored. Mine looked great at the car show, but when I looked at them next to restored 86 GLHS Centurions, I was convinced to spend the money down the line. Mine are a bit shinier than I like. Not to mention, the rims have so many blemishes like stained metal and nicks. Pay the price and they look new without distorting the surface reflection.

I see you got one of the caps done... looks great
Was that done with the kleen-strip aircraft stuff and were there any issues doing the cap?
