Hey guys looking to see who alls interested in fiberglass pannels for their Tona's. My 89 will be the "mold" for the blanks and parts would most likely include the following:

Fenders (OEM or flared for wider wheels/tires)
Hood (V6 style, power bulge, and vented vrsn of both possably)
Nose and complete GFX incl. headlight covers
Spoiler/hatch
doors (non T-Top)

Im talking to a local shop to have these parts produced for my vehicle and their talking about making flanged molds of all these parts to mass produce them if nec. Anyone interested?
WideMR2 PM quote

"well actually send it out to aci composites probably. they'll make a really thick mold thats flanged an everything. that way we can make a lot of the fenders or whatever parts you would want. search custom airwerks on google or something. theres a bunch of stuff out there that we've done. there is also some cars in the shop right now that have some crazy stuff going on now to. im assuming you want fiberglass fenders for weight purposes an would you also want any rolled flare to it for larger tires or anything like that...."

yeah Ive seen those before but most of the stuff isnt for 89 model year, or 88 for that matter. They also dont have a nose and front gfx seperate from one another and full gfx/spoiler vented hoods. or wider fenders to cover the tires for people who cant have them exposed for inspection not to mention doors for the shelby. IF I can find interested persons or afford to buy the rusted shelby charger I found I can also get all this made for that vehicle as well. If I find enough interested persons I may consider having these parts made in Carbon Fiber instead as well.

Thats cool

Looking at the 87-88 DAYTONA SHELBY Z HOOD - EXT.
it looks like my 1990 Daytona ES V6 hood, is there something different there i'm missing? The hood and Hatch would be a good start from there for my 1990.

I would assume as with anything the price will drop with buyers, but Im assuming prices would start a tad higher as the count is low, plus theres the possablity of carbon fiber if enough people are interested.

Those are for funny cars, and will not bolt right on.

I want 1992 Daytona parts--a hood to be more specific. There's been several group buy attempts in the past but never enough people to pony up cash to get anything going. Hopefully that will or has changed.

The hood needs to bolt on and function like a factory hood, and hopefully hold an insulator in place.

how is carbon fiber better than fiberglass? Lighter? more durable?

Harry Glass stuff is made for door slammers, not funny cars, but I digress.

You *CAN* make the hoods work on non extended cars. You just have to do some trimming and use hood pins(as with ANY fiberglass OR carbon fiber hood!!). The doors they make should work, but you're going to have to MAKE them work. I would not advise them for a street car unless you have a full cage with side bars. You will loose roll-up window functionality also.

To get the kind of functionality and quality needed for the kind of parts you are wanting, it's going ot be not just expensive, but VERY expensive(think almost $1000 for a good hood on the production scale we are tlaking about). I would not even bother with fiberglass fenders on a Daytona if they are going to look stock. They are already fairly light and by the time you do all the prep work to get them to fit right and everything, the weight savings of MAYBE 2#'s just isn't going to be worth it!

The hatch on these cars itself isn't heavy, it's the glass. Relpace that with some Lexan and you'll notice a HUGE difference. The thing is...it requires some special care so you can continue to see out of it.

This type of thing has been tlaked about MANY times over the last 10-12 YEARS...I've not seen anything come of it yet. One guy was able to make his own hood, but it took him almost a year and he said he wasn't going to make another one....

i made a fibreglass hood for my omni with a challenger style cowel. it weighs 12lbs. the stock hood weighs 35lbs if i remember right. its 2 layers of glass and LOTS of coats of resin. i did up the cowel of styrofoam on the origional hood, then coverd the entire thing with box tape, then rolled a layer of resin with a paint roller, layed a sheet of glass, more resin, more glass, then preaty well just POURED the rest of the resin over it and sanded it up once dry. its light but preaty freekin tough!! i used tile shluter on the underside to prevent twisting and flexing. its held on by 4 308 bullet hoot pins (reload shells)

Carbon fiber is far lighter than fiberglass even, the only issue is theres no fix for cracked C/F. Whereas you can patch/repair fiberglass. Lets get this first. The parts listed in the first post WILL be made at one point or another for MY personal vehicle. IF anyone else is interested I can have them make more as they will be making H/D molds to do so. IF other local members are willing to have these parts made for their generation vehicle they can mass produce those as well. (I.E I drive a Daytona so if you want parts for an omni you will need to find someone local or pony up a stock part for the mold blank.) This post is simply to see if anyone else is interested in factory fit fiberglass or carbon fiber parts(no hastle install). So lets figure this out first.

ARE YOU SERIOUSLY INTERESTED!?
DO YOU WANT CARBON FIBER OR FIBERGLASS?

In this case majority will rule unless you would like to contact custom airwerkz about haveing one or the other made for your vehicle.
