My rocker and rocker extension are starting to rust out. I want to minimize the damage until I can get the new panels here. Is there anyway for me to slow this down some besides getting it inside?

I am looking for gray interior trim for a J-body (1987-1989) LeBaron coupe hardtop. If you have anything please PM me before throwing it out. I am also selling tan trim if you're interested.

Yes use a rust converter, I have the paint peeling from my roof and it turned to rust and I used it, works great.
Google "rust converter" and you will find numerous sites that sell it.It is designed for all metals, not just automotive, it chemically converts the rust to an inert material and stops the metal from rotting away while leaving a weather proof paintable surface.
Read more about it online.
I bought a qt. for $20.00 with shipping.

No
rust converters are not going to work on rust through. you need to get a treatment product inside to the rust to do anything. just treating the surface stuff isnt doing anything

+1, Rust Converters work well on metal that has small or large amounts of surface rust.
If the metal has been eaten away it will probably work if you can get the converter on the inside of the body panel were the major amount of damage is, it only works were rust is present, it does nothing on a primered or painted surface.
Actually the rust converter is a thin liquid applied with a brush and if you remove the jagged edges and sand around the area's to smooth slighty and remove dirt(with a body solvent) it may help to slow it down until repairs/ replacement are made.
I always "google" questions like that, try to research everything, thats how I stumbled across rust converter in the first place.
Actually Walmart sells spray cans of Rust Restore made by Rustoleum,I do not know how well it works but if you are just looking for a quick fix you have nothing to lose by trying it.
Preping the surface is the key weather you are using rust converter, primer, paint.

I've always been curious about spray galvanizing. Apparently the area gets prepped by sandblasting all the rust and then molten zinc is sprayed on the area at high temp and pressure. This builds the metal back up that had rusted and there's a technique to repair holes without welding in panels. I don't know anyone thats had it done - maybe you could try it and report back to us. They invented this in Utah so I'd figure maybe you heard of it.

sand where needed, then flat black it....thats what I have done with vehicles and it slows it down almost to a halt.

if the car is rusting from the inside sanding and painting the outside will do next to nothing to slow it down. wanna see the van thats rotting apart in my driveway...

3M internal rust fighter

make a hole in the rusting spots and spray that stuff up in there.

See and that's the problem. I know the spots are rusting from the inside out. It started rusting through at the end of this winter. I have a parts car to get the sheet metal off of and I'm hoping to get it welded on to my car by the end of the summer. I'm looking to minimize the amount of metal I'm going to have to replace.

I'll give some stuff a try and see if it can slow it down for the time being.

Just use some oil and grease or rust proof treatement . I treat my car underneath and in the fender etc and the rust grown slower. In my country, its a place where the metal is not the good material to make a car evreything rust very fast ! I own a 1992 dodge shadow and the paint is original no rust. I treat my car every year with a type of grease. We have 6 months of winter a year we have calcium on the road and during the summer it rain almost everyday. Its a proof that a rust treatment is a good way to maintain your car in good shape.
