Hi All,

I just finally put my new door on my 89 GTC convertible. I bought it 6+ years ago and decided to install it today. After getting the thing hung, I noticed it won't shut. I didn't expect it to be perfect, but it's off quite a bit. It binds on the fenders. Does this thing get adjusted "all" from the under side of the fender? Or do I have to pull a kick panel also. I see 3 bolts top and bottom from behind the fender. Would it be wise to pull out the bottom of the fender for better clearance or just leave it alone so I don't have trouble adjusting the door straight? Any tricks would be welcome. And if all I need to do is loosen the 6 bolts under the fender, whay's a good way to shift the door over?
Thanks After further inspection, it looks like the door needs to go up more on the hinge side. The bolts won't allow it. Maybe once it's back further and is able to shut, that part may look right.

Three bolts in the top and three bolts in the bottom of the door. I don't think I would attempt to move the fender, that will just make something else out of adjustment. Hopefully the pics below will help you figure out how to make the adjustments.
Basically, you just snug the bolts, gently close the door, then open the door very carefully, holding it in location. I would have a floor jack (with some padding on it) to put under the door as soon as I open it, to maintain the adjustment. Then tighten the bolts and close the door. Repeat as needed. If you don't have the bolts too tight, you may be able to use the floor jack to make minor adjustments.

I ended up pulling the fender away a bit. It made making adjustments a lot easier. Being a convertible (and rusty at that) the car settled a bit after I put the tire back on and looked better. My biggest problem now is the latch part on the door holds the door open a good 1/4 inch. I can't believe there's such a difference. It's funny too that both doors are from white 1989 LeBaron converts yet are different on the inside. The picture you posted is just like mine. Square hole top center. The new door didn't have that and a few other changes. I wonder if the new door was changed before that car was junked? Oh well, It's getting closer to being done. Not at all the 1 hour job I expected. The mirror colors were different and I had to get the door close to the car so I could hook up the wires and lower the window. Otherwise the glass was in the way from getting at the screws.

The striker should be adjustable for door open/close.

Yeah, If I can get the thing loose. I tried cracking that thing last night and it fought me. Now if only I could find my 1/2" drive 18mm 6 point deep socket. The one that's always there and somehow disappeared.

18mm, really? I would have to go look at my car but they are usually a flat head torx.

I expected to see a torx myself. I'm glad it's not. I think my 18mm socket is laying in the dirt somewhere at a salvage yard.
