Yeah I believe it's an 86.What's the pt# on the logic Module?84's are one year only on electronics.Does it have the small dist cap?Do the sensors have weatherproof caps?84s use two prong temp-coolant-and air charge sensors. What is part # on head 445? to change all this stuff you have to change the entire wiring harness.Nice Lebaron wood grain!
I've never seen a Laser CS either.Show me a better upclose engine pic.I believe the vins have been switched. While I have never looked for it ,the orig vin should be stamped on the body parts somewhere--a little help anyone.

Here's the engine.
The doors and hood both say 86 on the stickers, and the cars&concepts sticker is also dated 86. But the steering wheel is 84, the front ID tag matches the VIN in the dash. I haven't looked close enough at the motor to see if it's an 84 or an 86...

84s didn't have solid mount A/C mount and didn't have the top rear bolt in the compressor mount.84 had the fpr mounted on the firewall. Also the heater return line went to the rad-not the lower hose or wp.fan relay was also in rad.looks like swirl head or 287(85) Pretty sure it's not an 84--Thats really a good thing! 84 electronics really suck-very difficult to modify.MP logic module for 84--P4529868--9869 for 85 and 9871 for 86

Best of luck with your project. Great find! Not to rain on your parade, but I bought a GLHT from a shop in Mich. a few years ago that needed some repairs. After putting one of my engines in it, along with over $2,000 in other
things to get it roadworthy, I finally was able to take it for a drive. After washing the dust off of it, my son & I went for a cruise. We were pulled over and the car was impounded. The police said it was stolen.
To make a long story short, according to the detective's there were 2 sets of #'s on the shell, plus my #'s on the eng & tranny. The dash, door tag, core support and title had one number. But the frame and the build numbers inside the car had different numbers. Even with a signed title and bill of sale, they wouldn't release my car, and threatened to charge me with theft! They kept the car for 6 months until me and the supposed "owner" of the car could agree on a settlement. I told him to give me $3,000 for my parts, he didn't have it. He wanted $1,000 for body, but I had a reciept for the $500 I had paid the shop initially ( which the asshole cops wouldn't prosecute) for the car, so I had to pay him $500 to get my car back. Don't trust anyone!!!

Looks as if the only 84 thing on the car is the steering wheel which was Daytona only and the Lasers got the ugly 2 spoke wheel. There are a couple of other little clues that show that it isn't an 84 A/C controls are completely different, and it dosen't have the key lock on the fuel door cover. All in all a nice find. The Laser XT's are getting hard to find.

XT was a 86 year only, the 84 wheel does seem strange.

Don't forget the XT came out as a 85 1/2 model and a 86 model.

I have to get it to the locksmith to have a key made for the t-tops. So that means getting the brakes working, putting the driver seat back in and hooking up the fuel tank so I can drive it 3 blocks from the shop. After that It's getting cut up and repaired.

If it turns out to be an 84, I have the logic module to let you run a TII setup with 84 electronics.
