my name is Becky and i started this project a year ago. this is my bf's car, at the time i worked in a body shop to were i had all the tools needed to repaint his car and fix both front fenders pass, side was smashed in by the headlight, the driver side had a huge hole were it had rusted out, a couple of dings in the hood. i sanded it all down to bare metal to be built back up now i did the front half then i started to work on the hatch cause u couldnt open it wihtout cutting ur hand open, i customized a patch, wrapped it around the under side and pop ribbeted it on then tiger haired the patch sanded and finished the out side. i then proceeded to sand everything from quarter panels back to bare metal and sprayed primer then grey sealer to build it back up the same as the front. the sad thing is that my boss decided to move and i couldnt relocate. i never got to finish the doors their still purple, all in all i have the paint to finish but no spray guns to finish with. the color scheme for the car is going to be a med mettalic silver with a blue mica pearl and the flames are going to be in a white lightning sparkle, so that the flames r going to be sort of ghosted. if anyone has any pointers i would really be thankfull.

That's pretty cool for a girl to be doing this work.

I have a couple pointers: first, work on spelling (ribbeted? mettalic?), 2nd, your "ribbeted" patch panels are not a good way to go. You'll have rust again then a big chuck will fall off the car. Welding is a prefered method.

sounds like you have some experiences. why not get another job in the field? or how about go to school for this career path and use that car for a project in the class. or see if you have a community college/ trade/ technical school with collision repair and sign up for non-credit night classes. this will allow you to have access to necessary tools, equipment and workspace.

i did go to school for collision repair at ictc and missed the chance to be certified cause my parents wanted to move in my senior yr. i have worked in alot of shops but once the customers find out that a girl was working on there car they give my boss a problem. now i'am trying to get my ase cert's but i need to study for the last two i could pass three now, but i work too much. another thing i was never a good speller, but i try.
what is the best way to shave were the antenna goes? i thought about cutting a piece of sheet metal to size, then weld it in the hole. would that be the correct way, or the best way? i am also thinking about fabricating a fiber glass body kit using some parts from the existing one.

do you not want an antenna? Put a different one there, or...find a different place. I would ditch that funky spot if you don't want an antenna there cause it will look bad.

Spellin aint important if you still use good punctuation and capitalization to make reading easier. I cant spell for crap.

I never use an apostrophe ' in words that I type unless I am editing a post and Firefox tells me there are 30 spelling errors in my post.

If you cut out the antennae area with a hole saw you can take a scrap of sheetmetal on the inside scribe out the part and cut to fit. When you weld it in make sure you treat (prime and paint) the underside so it doesn't rust out again. Good luck Girls can turn wrenches have seen a few!
