Hey Guys, I'm planning on upgrading to larger rims to accommodate larger brakes and better tires and as such I'm stuck with a choice; aftermarket or factory rims? I shall be keeping my 4 lug bolt pattern, so the choices are fairly limited as per stock rims, but I have wide variety of aftermarket ones to chose from.

I've narrowed it down a either 4 lug pizza rims, which conveniently are currently for sale atm, or a set of eBay "special" rims; Nippon Racing 'Type C' rims. Both are in a 15" size and have similar backspacing etc.

We all know what pizzas look like, so I won't bother posting a pic. Aftermarket ones are available in both black with a polished lip or chrome. Which do you guys prefer; Pizza, Black/Polished or Chrome?

For those unfamiliar, the vehicle that the rims shall be going on is my '87 Horizon GLH, silver in color:

The black Nippon ones I would say. One thing to consider is cost as well.

I have the same problem finding rims that I like for my 89 LeBaron GTC . Not many good looking 16" wheels made IMO .

Cost is no issue; the rims are fairly cheap, under $300.00 for a set of 4. I'm approaching this from a purely cosmetic stand point. Keep the thoughts coming!

How're things going, Jesse?

The aftermarket wheels would give you the option to get 6" wide rims and tailor the backspacing to fit larger tires on the car without worrying about it rubbing.

My glht is black so chrome wheels would look silly ( in my opinion). A totally blacked out car with shiny rims, not for me. Since yours is silver it may not be too bad, but since the glht's came from the factory with a "blackout" look the black with polished lip may be a better looking option. Then it would at least match the door handles.

I would go aftermarket wheels. You decide which looks better to you.

Been pretty good. The guy I bought my Talon from is moving to Calgary so he gave me 4 almost brand new 16" summer tires. I might just get some new rims for the spirit and put them on there. Havent made much progress on the spirit, but since its nice I might pull the head this week and start on the tranny.

How are things with you? Ricing out the Ho I see? jk.

Go with the black. Chrome doesn't seem to look right when it comes to TD's. Pizza's give it the old school sleeper look, but if you're going to spend the money one way or another I'd go with aftermarket.

I've been pretty good, school is been quite hectic and still trying to decide which career is for me, lol. I've been collecting more parts for my engine and shall be bringing it home today to begin disassembly and also send things off for paint - I'll letcha know when I do. I've been thinking about upgrading my brakes to ones off an '84 Caravan, but then to do so, I need larger rims and thus began the debate, which rims to buy!

Thanks to all those who've commented, appreciate the opinions! Keep them coming!

If you're good with computers come to dark side of IT Are you going to the U of M? They have an awesome co-op program for comp sci students that I went through. You'd get a year of paid experience with up to 3 companies while in the middle of your studies. Helps keep the loans down for sure! Let me know if you want to know more.

Oh, and if you're humming and hawing over upgrading brakes just wait for a 4 wheel disc car to roll through Buck's and snag everything. 10.25" is plenty of braking power for your horizon. I'll sell you mine even if I can find an 11" brake set-up.

I'm trying to keep things 4 lug for now, so early Caravan 10.5" rotors for the front, along with larger drums in back. I've heard mixed things about 4 wheel discs on an Omni, particularly with having too large ones in the rear. I think vented discs in front with 220mm rear drums shall be more than enough stopping power for my small L-body.

In regards to career choices, I'm good with computers, hardware and software wise, but I gave up comp sci back in high school; found it too frustrating and tedious Not for me. I'm going to the U of W and currently am taking a slew of science courses, Physics, Chem, Bio etc along with Psychology, but I'm thinking of going into something else. Perhaps mechanics or perhaps industrial arts....toying with the idea of being an industrial arts teacher, lol. Any info on the subject?

Annnnnnyways, upgrade the rims to 15 inch ones, get Caravan brakes, Cooper Cobra tires, 205 or 215-50-15 and then do my turbo engine swap and voila - GLH clone!

Keep the rim votes coming!

Cheers, TheCanadian

I would go with the black. I have silver wheels (not chrome) on my silver car and they look good. Can you get brushed aluminum? That would be sweet!

They make them in a wide variety of colors, from gunmetal, to black, gold, silver, chrome; really all colors that one can think of. I decided on black or polished, as those are the ones that tickled my fancy.
