ok, so now that great lakes hot rods are selling p body window scrapers (finally someone is doing it), I can start to begin the final process of my 89 CSX "restoration".

so, in order to change the window scrapers, I need to remove them, and in order to do that, the windows in the doors need to be removed.

questions:
is it difficult to remove the door windows?

if it is not too difficult, can someone list the steps to do so.

otherwise, should I just get safelite to come and remove the windows for me?

thanks for your help and opinions.

Manual or Power Windows?

Flex Drive or Gear Driven Regulator?

thanks for the reply. as I said in my post, it's an 89 CSX so it has manual windows. not sure about what type of regulator, looks like it would be gear driven, I don't see a belt of any type in there.

the service manual says something about rolling the window all the way down, angle it off the regulator and slide it up and out.

I'm kind of nervous that I'll get something messed up, but I think I'll go ahead and try it out.

Your tona looks really nice.

any tips?

It's not at all difficult but I will tell you this.....don't break the glass! I know that sounds obvious but when you get in there w/tools do't forget that even a little tap on the edge of the glass will shatter it. It doesn't take much....ask me how I know.... ;-)

When I replaced my outer belt weatherstrip I gently covered and layed the glass in the bottom of the door rather than removing it from the door.

I do not have my Engine/Body/Chassis FSM here so I cannot give you step by step factory instructions.

AP body also uses Window Glass Retainers that keep the glass in the window channel runs.

You can get an exploded veiw of your door and window system in the Chrysler Parts Catalog.
Download 89 (or all so you have them, total of 264 MB's)
Click on Group 23C, Body-Doors and Related Parts.
Go to Page 1253 Figure 23C-800 and Page 1257 Figure 23C-1000.

ok,thanks for the link. didn't help me a whole bunch, so that's an indication that I should seek professional help. (not only for the window, but for my TD addiction also!!).

anyway, thanks. maybe if I go look at it I'll figure out what the service manual says to do, although it is very cryptic. at least to me.

thanks for the help.

Its really easy, remove the door panel, 3 or so screws holding the inner "Pull" handle and then carefully pry the lower half of the door away (held on by a bunch of clips) and not sure exactly but you may also need to remove the bezel around the "latch" handle and the side mirror adjuster.

Then it is obvious how the lower part of the window is attached to the mechanism, I would recommend trying to set it in the bottom of the door, first, as popping the top edge out of the rail usually results in a broken clip (i have never done it without breaking it) then you have to go get a new one.
PM me if you have questions i would try to help more
