Has anyone ever tried to install the 90 L-body dash into an older charger? I found a 90 omni in the j yard in good condition, and really like it. If anyone has, what other parts would I need besides the dash itself? Or is it even worth the time and effort? Thanks

I put an 84 and up dash from an Omni in my 82 Rampage. very easy, I doubt the 90 dash is any different.

There are a lot of differences. If you get everything you can do it. Everything includes:
Dash
knee bumper
console
steering column
heater box
cables
wiring harness
front door panels (mirror adjusters mount in different places)
All the metal reinforcement brackets underneath.
Pedal assembly mount bracket

The dash weighs about twice as much as the regular Omni dash
The top of them seems to like to warp from the heat
it is hard to reach the radio

ya why did they put all that effort into changing the dash on a final production cycle year? It did look good but why not sooner if at all? What was up with the radio down on the floor like that?

They had to make changes to accomodate the air bag steering wheel. The question still remains why they kept the Omni around for the final half year (it was discontinued mid year).

I was told it was time for me to hand over more money for renewal. By my calculations, I still have about 3 months left. I just decided to let it go away. With the new owners things are up in the air as far as the quality of this site. Maybe after things settle down I may like it a little better again and decide to for over a few bucks to keep my PM box open. Till the, I check in about 2X per month.

I put a '90 instrument cluster into my '86 ; you get the 100 mph speedo but lose the oil P gauge (and lose the speedo cable too)

you will need the cluster, the (2) rectangular wiring plugs with about 6" pigtail, and the electronic speed sensor which bolts into the trans and replaces the old mechanical drive cable

then you can put the '90 gauge 'guts' and back part into the older front clear shield (or was it the other way around?); I had to drill some holes for new screws.. I like the 100 mph speedo

PM me for more info if you wish.. swapping the whole dash seems like a lot of work unless you REALLY want the improved HVAC and airbag...
