The plastic panels on the interior of my 87 shelby charger have been sun-baked and are flaking off. I thought about taking them out and sanding them, then painting or sealing them with something. Has anybody else had this problem and how do I fix it. Probably have to buy all new pieces. It's the panels that start behind the door and go all the way back to the hatch and to the ceiling. Thanks.

All four of my SC that I owned have had this problem. The best so far was my 85 that I bought had the factory louvers still and didn't have barely any until you look at the side windows there was damage. What I did in my good SC was got a interior out of a base turmiso that was dark gray instead of the light gray. I love it doesn't show the dirt and so far doesn't get sundamage. So I guess what your best bet is to paint the dark gray since it doesn't seam to have this problem. Or do what I did and swicth every thing except the seats and door panels.

Take a green 3M scratch pad and fill the bath tub with warm soapy water. I prefer using dishwashing liquid. Use the green scratch pad and start scrubbing. This will remove all the crappy coating on those panels. Once the panels are smooth (you took off ALL that textured coating), give them a good rinse and let them dry completely. Buy some SEM dye from NAPA or another auto parts store and dye them the color of your choice.

The smooth panels look nicer than the textured panels when you are finished.

Thanks, I didn't know NAPA sold the SEM dye. I'm going to check it out tomorrow. I'm going for a black interior with a little red. Got black and red grant steering wheel, floor mats, and might get seat covers cuz mine are kind of staind. Thanks again.

It depends on the NAPA. Some do, some don't. They can order about anything for you though.
