I found this on the internet and thought that it is a great explanation of a headliner install.
The following instructions are merely suggested options for installation. There are other ways to properly install your headliner. We are providing you with one method of installation that other customers have recommended. Furthermore, the spray glue included with this kit is one alternative that can be used for material installation. The Fiero Store is only responsible for the fiberglass backing and material that it ships and is not responsible for faulty installations or adhesive failure. Labor claims will not be acknowledged. If you are not familiar with the processes listed below, please seek the help of a professional automotive technician.
Match you original headliner base to the new fiberglass unit. Mark any holes that need to be drilled or cut out, such as sun visor screw holes and the third brake light hole.
Once alterations have been made to the fiberglass unit, thoroughly clean the fiberglass gluing surface of any dust and/or debris. Any residue on the gluing surface will prevent the material from sticking securely to the fiberglass. Some customers recommend paint thinner as a good cleaner, but other alternatives, such as a tach cloth, may also be used.
Carefully align the uncovered fiberglass unit inside of your Fiero. Make sure that all holes have been drilled accurately and that the fiberglass lines up all the way around the perimeter of the roof.
Drape the headliner material over the base, leaving equal amounts of material overhanging each side of the base unit. Be sure that you leave enough slack in the material to allow it to form within the concave portions of the base unit.
Cut holes in the material that match the holes in your headliner base (ie: sunroof, 3rd brake light, dome light, etc...). Leave enough overhanging material to wrap around the underside of the sunroof, 3rd brake light and dome light openings.
Once the material is centered and all cuts are made, use clothes pins to hold down one side of the material to the base. Fold the material back over the clothes pins. The underside of the material and the fiberglass should now be exposed. Spread the adhesive (per the instructions on the can of adhesive), starting at the clothes pins and working out to the opposite side. Attach small pieces of material at a time, being careful to avoid wrinkles and air pockets. Don't pull the material too tight, as this may cause it to detach from the concave portions of the fiberglass base.
Once the material is glued in place, remove the clothes pins and glue the remaining material. Make sure that the overhanging material around the edges, 3rd brake light and dome light have been glued to the backside of the headliner. If sunroof equipped, leave excess material overhanging the sunroof opening to fit into the sunroof filler track (chrome metal trim ring that holds the material to the chassis and the rubber filler pushes into).
Make a final inspection of the material to make sure there are no air pockets or wrinkles. Further alterations cannot be made once the glue has cured.
Allow at least one hour for the glue to set before moving your finished headliner. Let the headliner sit, with the material facing up, for at least 24 hours before installing the finished product into your car.
