Hey, I am thinking of putting some xtra gauges in my p-body. My question is this, you know that flat area of dash to the left of the normal gauge cluster? Has anyone tried to put gauges in there? Is there room for gauges there behind the dash?

I dont know about that area, but I know that you can put gauges in the center area above the defroster switch. I am going to try to put a few pictures up of what it looks like as soon as I can. Until then, hang tight!

Jordan,

thanks, I'd be interested in seeing your pics. My car is actually an 89 CSX and the boost gauge and idiot light panel are located above the defroster switch already. that's why I was thinking of the blank area to the left of the instrument panel, but I'd still like to see your pics.

thanks

Hey,
Do a yahoo search under images.I saw a pic a couple months back of a guy who had his trans temp gauge there.I plan on doing it soon too.
I also have a windshield triple mount pod that goes above my rearview mirrior for more gauges.
I think it would look cool having a bunch of gauges. Also monitoring alot keeps things safe.I currently have egt,air/fuel on the a pillar and boost on the column pod.
Plan on trans temp in the spot you mentioned. Also plan on watertemp, oil press, and volts up top on the windshield.
Maybe down the road ill find a spot for a nitrous gauge and firing switch.
Good luck ......Ryan

Here's a pic I found of a custom gauge panel in a Shadow. Lots of extra gauges, but what happened to the vents? and too much of a change for me.

Here's what I just thought. If you take a look at these pics of a Shadow dash, isn't there room for two more small gauges? One above voltmeter and one above temp. gauge? I mean, my 1971 Fiat 124 spider (man I miss that thing) had more gauges than my CSX!

tell me what you think. If my CSX wasn't in pieces at the shop I'd go out in the ice storm right now and measure it.

You could do what Steve Calder did with his CSX. Looks awesome! So I did it to my Shelby Charger. Used 1/2" copper tubing. I can shoot a pic of mine if you want. I won't be able to post it here but I can email it if you are interested.

That's a good idea, but I was thinking of cutting a dash panel out of carbon fiber, and then getting some stewart warner gauges (with silver trim rings, black faces, white numbers, backlit) and putting them in. Or, getting cobra 289 replica gauges (to keep with the shelby theme). I really like gauges with alu or ss trim rings, gives that retro performance look, you know?
