I am in the process of installing some lightweight racing seats in my Daytona. I want to go ahead and install some new seat belts as well, but I am not sure which route to take. I know I shouldn't cheap out when it comes to safety, but some of the belts and harnesses are pretty pricey.
I'm hoping to run low 13's to high 12's at the strip.

Anyone have any suggestions/recommendations on a good belt/harness setup? something that's affordable.........
I have seen some of those JDM set ups on ebay, but I don't know how good those would be. I do like the way that they have a stock type latch mechanism though.

Thanks for any input.

IN NY racing belts with no DOT tag, wont pass the annual safety inspection and you can get a no seat belt ticket when wearing them.

I haven't heard of that problem here in Georgia. You would think that they would recognize that the racing belts are usually better quality and safer anyways...........

I guess I'm leaning towards just spending the money and getting SFI certified belts, etc... My only reservation is that my wife won't want to ride in the car as much if it's going to take her five minutes to get buckled in all the time.
Maybe I'll just ditch the passenger seat anyways....less weight.

Anyone else have any experience with safety harnesses in a street car?
What brand/recommendations?

Thanks

In Florida it is also illegal to not wear the factory seat belts while driving the car on public roads. They actually consider it more dangerous .

If I remember correctly, the UV rays deterioate the belts. The company that made my belts in '93, told me to take them out of the car during week if I was going to leave the car outside.

Summit Racing has SFI cert. belts as low as $60.

BTW: I believe SFI belts are only good for 2 years from the date of manufacture. At least that is the case with alot of road race clubs. FIA cert. belts do not have that restriction.

The UV thing is true, that's the reason for the date stamp.

yes, they have to inspect the webbing. After a certain amount of time the webbing has to be replaced...in a lot of cases it's less expensive to replace the belts

Thanks for all of the input.
I think I have decided to run a stock type belt setup for now and swap out the belts for racing harnesses on race days. It will be a pain in the butt, but I would rather not have to deal with the police and draw extra attention to the car when it sees street duty............. I'm going for a semi street sleeper look.

I'm in Dawsonville over by the outlet mall area. It's about 50 miles or so from Atlanta.
If you're anywhere close maybe we can meet some time.

Is a SFI harness required for those times? I wouldn't do it unless you need it. They are only good for a couple years. If you want an out of date set, I can sell you a blue 5-pointer. I usually sell them to the dirt oval guys when they are out of date. They don't have to replace them as often.

I don't think one is required for those times, but I figured that they might not ask as many questions when going through the tech line if they saw that I had good stuff in the car.
Thanks for the offer, but I'll probably just end up buying a new, black colored harness when the time comes.

i have an RCI 3" 5 point harness in my van. i welded up a bar that i bolted the the rear of the seat mounts (what the seat slides bolt to) then laced them around it the way you would to a roll cage. (i also have a kirkey race fab seat) i wear them around town and nobodys ever said anything to me. im kinda interested to be pulled over just to see what the cops oppinion is about it. its set up compleatly track legal, but you never know what they would say.
