Dome light...?

The dome light does not come on when I open the doors in my '89 Daytona. It does come on when I turn the headlamp switch or, of course, push the bottons. The computer recognizes that the door is open, so I know the switch works.
Is this normal?
Now that I think about it...I don't think the main dome light ever came on...only the two reading lights. The interior is gutted now for paint, but I thought I'de ask.
