So I'm going to put a nice stereo in my '88 Daytona. I've got a couple of questions though.

In my '90 I fit 6.5" speakers in the doors with NO issues.
Will 6.5" speakers fit in the door of the '88? I tried it and they do "fit", but I'm concerned about the cone hitting the metal under high excursion(going to be running 75W RMS).

My other quesiton is that I'm planning on component speakers. I've seen and heard all sorts of combinations on where to mount the tweeters, but I'd like to know where people that have a lot of expereice with this think is the best place to mount them.

Thanks...

Does your tona not have stock tweeters in the top of the dash?

On my 86 I put 6.5 mids in the door, and soft dome tweets in the dash. I made a very thin ring out of MDF that conforms to the door metal & the speaker mounts to. I also had to trim the back side of the door panel a bit as there were a couple ridges in the way. My car still had the factory speakers in the dash, and I used the plastic pieces on them & modified them to hold the tweeter mounts.

I don't have pictures of the door setup, but I have some pics of the tweeters if you wanna see. I was really pressed for time putting the stereo in & forgot to take door pictures.

Normally I go all out on stereos & fab kick panels & things of that nature, but I wanted this stereo to be stealth up front, and I didn't feel like moving the LM & e-brake pedal to fit custom pods.

I use to install oem replacement/mild stereos in high school and do it as a hobby/money lol here and there. The dash it the best place to me. facing up towards the windshield so the wazes bounce off of it. some like them where the side mirrow plates are at. but at high volumes and sometimes low it seems the tweeters dont do much of anything.

Before you cut into anything hook them up, play it at a normal to you volume, that is the best way to find out where you will be the most pleased with them. only you know how you want it to sound, others know how that want it to sound so play around before you make your mind up so you dont regret it later on. Hope this helps... What brand are the tweeters?

I'm going to be getting Infinity Refference series components for the fronts. I was thinking about mounting them to the A-pillar, but I suppose we'll see...

I think I'll stick with 5.25" for the doors and just use speaker baffles to bring the bass response up a bit.

The rears are Memphis Audio 5x7 2-ways.

Head unit is Pioneer DEH-P7700MP

My '91 has the component tweeters mounted in the dash bouncing off the glass as described above, but I've not gotten to listen to it yet since the car hasn't run and the radio was dismantled when I got it. That had a competition level stereo in it a long time ago...so it can't be that wrong...
