If i was to repair the floor panels and POR 15 the entire interior on my GLH, do i need the insulation that goes under the carpet? I assume it's just there for sound deadening and if i can go without i will.

you dont NEED it ; as you know, its sound deadening and heat/cold insulation, also adds weight and holds moisture

if you dont mind a little extra noise, take it out

leave it out it does not make make difference in noise reduction and never noticed any difference in the heat in my old 88 z.
