That again depends on which deck we're talking about, but one of the more common causes of this one are broken belts and pinch rollers getting dirty, snagging the tape, and unraveling it all over the inside of the deck (or wrapping it around the roller itself).

You'd have to open it up to see what the deal is in there. With the Infinity II being discussed in that other thread, there would have to be something physically jamming it in there, or a dead loading motor.

I would have included the part number but the sticker is missing off of it,those pictures you posted on the other thread,my radio would be the top radio just black not silver.
There was no tape that had come appart inside nothing jamming up or wrapped up in the rollers. oh! I just found what I think is the part number for radio(found it my tool box, original sticker) #4469108. thanks again! mike.

The top one (from the other thread) is the Infinity I - by far the most common Chrysler/Infinity deck of the late 80's and early 90's. They also have the dubious distinction of having the weakest amplifier section (12W x4 RMS).

I see the thread's been split, so here's the picture again:

The cassette section in these is mostly spring driven - there's a solenoid in them that's supposed to fire to pop the tape out. Maybe that solenoid is fried. But, these are a dime a dozen... I see them on every single yard run. One of them came with my current 1988 New Yorker - I kicked it out for an Infinity IV CD player (which has in turn been kicked out in favor of an MP3 deck).

what i would do to get the tape out is stick something thin in under the front of the tape thats jammed and gently pry up and hopefully the spring will kick in once you get it unstuck from the bottom position (i have had to do this to tape decks in the past....and it has worked however if the radio still has a hold of the actual tape at the best case scenario it gets unrolled worst case broken) so be careful if you want the tape in one piece

I have a working unit here, black buttons just like the one above, just here on a shelf, waiting for a new car. $30 shipped to your door in the US.
