Been thinking about putting rear speakers in the Omni. I know that a lot of people put them in the shelf behind the rear seat. I was wondering if anyone has tried to put them in the rear doors? I was thinking about using contact switches (like what is used on minivan sliding doors to power the locks) so I did not have wire going from the door frame to the door. I know that the speaker would not work when the door is open, but I was not worried about that. The plan would be to either remove the cardboard from the door panel only in front of the speaker. The goal or reason would be to maintain the stock apperance. Some sound quility might be given up because of the carpet, but I dont that I would be able to hear the differents. So...any ideas, have any of you tried this, and if so what problem, if any. Please I would like to hear what you guys think.

When I had the rear door panels off mine it didn't look like there was enough room with the window setup(can't remember if the window was down though lol).

i just built a little box like 5in high, 5 inches deep, with a 45 degree anle on the front, total width is around 2 feet. i put 2 6.5 pioneers in it and it fits right tight against the back of the carpet (facing the speakers towards the front at a 45 degree angle up.

covered it with black carpet, works awesome, but now i need a little bass. thinking of some 6x9s

my kenwood head unit has 2 rca hookups for 2 amps, thinking of getting a small amp and 2 6x9's,

my 6.5 box looks pretty stock, considering i built it with a circular saw and sheetrock screws.....gotta love carpenders---always got stuff laying around.

I have 5 1/4's in the back of my GLH, just gotta get them in the right spot to clear everything. But they're not in the greatest location for sound.

i have 2 6x9's in the rear deck of the Ho-Box, i built the deck out of hella thin (dont remember how thin) plywood, really light stuff. Ran em off my amp hid the wires its pretty clean if i say so myself.

if you look around and find some grilles like the ones on the front doors you can put the same size in the rear doors. and perhaps that be the cleanest you look you could get.

as for the contact switches i wouldnt use em if youre worried about sq.

me im the type of person who wants to be able to crank it all the way up with no distortion from my subs or componants, my current system meets those needs and hits around 130db with 1 12" in a custom enclosure.

I went the cheap/simple route. I bought 6x9 Scosche boxes from Walmart and fitted some Pioneer 6x9s in them. Then I ran the speaker wire under the carpet and rear seat and out near the seat belts. I usually just have them on the rear seat fastened down using the seat belts, or I can put them in the hatch. I went this way because I wanted to be able to remove them easily if I'm hauling cargo.

i had mine in boxes too but then i got tired of the look and built the deck then expanded my car stereo projects over to my horizon, and actually ended up building a 130db car for like $200.
