My brother retired around '93 after over 30 years at Chrysler, so I know he knows about the cars he helped build. In the mid to late '80's Chrysler stopped building any performance L-bodies and switched their attention to the Daytona platform because of it's superior handling. That's why they got
four wheel discs, the TII, and later the 16V's. The L-bodies weight advantage became a penalty. That's our cross to bare!

Well it is for a L body and it says 125 MPH as it shows in the pic and I can see as I hold it in my hand... So there for it exsists... and I am not saying that it was made in 89-91 that is just when his dad brought it home for him. it could have been sitting on his desk for a few years I dont know. I am not looking for people to argue that it does not belong to a L body.I am just looking to see if some body knows what it is.

(my dad has worked for GM since 1973 but if I asked him what MPH the speedo on a 1992 eldarado goes to he most likely would not know what it was)

yea, screw them, It's an awesome part, wish they all had that. Have you tested it for accuracy? I wonder if it wraps all the way around and is accurate like the 85 MPH speedos. Cool part, wish I had it for my Masi Lbody build up.

I just got it yesterday. I have not checked for accuracy but if I check and it is reading (125 when I am going 85) then I will try and use the gear for the speedo cable from a daytona with a 125mph speedo...

You can take it to a shop that rebuilds odometers and have them recalibrate it. They basically change how strong the magetism is on the magnets inside that make the needle move. It takes a special machine. What's cool about this is that if you have a custom face made, they *should* be able to calibrate it to any scale! So...you could in theory even make a 200mph speedo for your L-body! That goes for any other car using a mechanical speedo as well...including vans! (yeah, I thought about it when I had my van! )

90 Omnis got an electric (not cable) 100 mph speedo ; it will fit with some modification into an earlier cluster (I have one in my 86)

I have never seen any factory *US spec* L-bodys with anything better than the 85 mph "Rallye" gauge package or the '90 100 mph unit ; AFAIK it was never offered as any package; I would guess thats a non-Lbody speedo, but could be a European or more likely a Mexican part ? (did Omnis get exported to Mexico or EU?)

allegedly the (pre-90) Canada L-bodys got a 200 (??) km speedo which would be about 120mph or so; the mph numbers are on it, just smaller ; so that would be the BEST plug&play speedo upgrade for an Lbody

cool part !

The Canadian speedo goes to 180kmh (approx 110mph).

You can put an early mechanical P-body (Shadow) speedometer in an L-body and have it look absolutely factory. I did this ten years ago. The mount points in the cluster were different so I had to use epoxy to hold it in the housing. I had to modify the angle of the odo reset shaft so that it matches the L's and I replaced the shift indicator gel with a high-beam indicator and had to modify the traces on the board for that. I also used the flourescent orange needles from the P-body cluster. You will be one short so grab an extra or some spray-paint. The car is still around even though I sold it a few years ago.

Well this is a US part due to the fact that its primary is in MPH and not km/h. and it is a Mechanical Part. It has the correct mounting for the L body so it must not be from a P body. I think it is a test part that my buddies dad got from work and I am just lucky enough to have now. I work in a development shop that does work for Chrysler, and I see all kinds of crazy parts that are tesed and then shot down due to cost or such.... so this may have been one of those situations...

cool part !

If it was for a british import in the 80's it might have used that since they use miles.

Sweet find!

Have you installed it yet?

I wonder, since it has extra numbers, is the font (size of the numbers) smaller than stock making it harder to read?

Why Shelby didn't install this in the GLHS'..who knows!

Are there any part #'s????
