I'm not sure if this is the proper section for this question, but...

Does anyone have any tips on airbag removal and installation?

I'm doing a swap from one of my cars to the other (for color purposes) and I don't want to break that little tab on the back of it or set it off while taking it out or putting the other one back in.

Aside from obviously unplugging the battery, what else do I need to know?

Thanks naj, I actually do have that, I was just wondering if anyone had any tips/tricks that weren't mentioned in the book.

If this thread got swamped with horror stories about bags going off or something then I was going to think twice about doing it.

Thank you though!

I've done several of them. No big deal, just follow the directions in the FSM. Oh, after you disconnect the battery you want to wait about 30 minutes to an hour BEFORE you try to disconnect the bag. If you don't you "could" set it off.

Thye are a heck of a lot of fun to set off outside the car too! Just make sure you aren't near anything else for a good 300 feet, use a good distance between you and the bag(put the bag face down on the ground) then use a 12V car battery and a long length of wire that is aligator clipped to the wires on the bag. It'll fly a good ways in the air and sound like a shotgun blast! Do NOT try to pick the bag up for about 20 minutes after it is deployed and do NOT breathe the powder than comes out if it.

Yes it is somewhat scary if you have never had one off but.....
By disconnecting the battery and waiting 60 seconds you allow the capacitors in the system to discharge.
It is not unheard of that static electricity will cause an airbag to deploy and theoretically you are supposed to ground yourself but I have never yet (yet is emphazised) seen a airbag accidentally deploy and we have them off almost everyday for one reason or another.
When it is off lay it down with the airbag cover facing upwards so if something does happen it does not shoot into the air.
If I was removing mine I would just follow the service procedures and not even give it a second thought.
