If you eyeball it, make sure the sun visors don't interfere with it.

Thats odd that the old glue did not leave a mark on the windshield. They fall off all the time at work, cars sitting in the lot with the windows up in the heat....
I usually just mark the spot on the outside of the windshield with a crayon and then clean the glue with a razor blade.
The adhesive is "rear veiw mirror adhesive" made by permatex.
A couple of things, be sure all of the old adhesive is cleaned thoroughly from the mirror button, I usually clean it with the wire wheel on the bench grinder.
DO NOT follow the mounting instructions for dry time and hanging the mirror.Follow the instuctions for the cleaner/activater in the small vial and let it dry thouroughly on the windshield and button but then they say 1 small drop of adhesive in the center of the button, use a little more, they say the mirror can be hung in 15 minutes, BS!!!!, Hold the button in place for 1 minute with your finger then use masking tape to hold in place for 12-24 hours or it will fall off again. Try to wait until the windshield is cool and do it in the shade or when the sun goes down.
NAJ is online now

heres another couple tips
if you dont have the bracket and end up buying a new one from a parts store, DO NOT use the plastic ones they are selling! they dont fit and WILL break!
autozone oriellys and advance sell the metal brackets in a pack of three- the one for our cars is in that pack.
dont use cheap glue- like NAJ said use the permatex pro glue- its seems to be the best stuff out there at the moment.
i didnt let mine set for 24 hours but i did let it set for 3-4 before putting the mirror on the bracket.
to give the glue an extra bite on the bracket , take the mounting surface and chamfer the edge all the way around. then lightly go over the rest of the mounting surface with the grinder or some rough grit sandpaper. this gives the glue a nice rough surface to grab onto.
if you're using a new bracket you will definately have to chamfer the edge- you'll see a small lip on the edge if you look at it closely. you have to get rid of that lil edge or the bracket will not make proper contact with the glass.
also the new brackets have oil on em to prevent rusting in the package- spray it off a couple times with carb or brake cleaner before using the primer.
dont over use the glue- all it takes is one fat drop like the instructions say, more will not hold it any better and just makes a nasty lookin mess on your windshield.
oh as far as leaving the rearview off, most states require you to have one if you can see out the back window, if a cop wanted to be a dick he could give you a ticket for it.
