I returned a battery for someone a while ago to a parts store, and like a moron, let it hang out in the backseat not realizing it was leaking like an old faucet ... Now, for some reason, only the stitching came out, nothing else. The foam pad is funny looking. Well, considering my oh so smart idea and realizing my love for performance audio systems, I am looking to make the backseat either fold down, or dual buckets replicating the front seats that fold down. Any bracket workings on the market currently that might do the trick, or do I have to weld a bunch at work?

Another question would be, (considering I have access to sheet metal and brake press and pop rivet gun at home), how hard do you think it would be to make the trunk floor completely flat, and hang my now full size spare underneath like a pickup truck? I was thinking, plasma cutter, lots of fire, maybe a few new battle scars, and picking up the stock equipment for a spare tire underhang out of a minivan or something. and some 16 gauge steel.

3rd question ... What type of sheet metal and gauge do you think would be great for body parts? I've got all the angles and measurements for my custom rocker panels, which, like a Dodge Spirit, rusted out badlyyyy, and will not pass PA inspection if I paid them to. I can't get any "plain" metal unless I place a custom order for it and then I will be asked why. I am stuck using scrap galvanized or galvaneal. 10gauge - 22 gauge

why would you wanna put your spare under your car?
I can understand the bucket seats. Use daytona seats and do some minor custom work!
That will work fine and they look alright
What car are you doing this 2?
I know of people that kill the spare tire well for weight
The minivan things or truck hangers usually go out so not a very good idea
The ones that work sell like hotcakes around my yard cause they are normal to stop working OR BREAK!
Just my 2 cents...

The spare under the car = more audio from system going inside. tip for those with stereos. rip out the good for nothing 2 inches of useless crap from behind the seat until the cushion shows. nobody will see it anyways with 2 15" subs in the way. more sound comes into the car. spare under car = less room for sound to travel in trunk and forces it into the car . Don't forget to foam up the trunk and dynomat it.

If you plan to hang or even put anything on top of that I'd suggest some cross bracing of some sort, prefferably welded in...

Like turbokid said; If you want fold down seats, use some Daytona rear seats. IF you decide to go that route, I have an nice set of Gray Daytona rear seats and I'm not TOO far from Erie, Pa.

I am interested in the seats considering my interior is that crappy maroon. I plan on doing the whole interior black/grey combo. I'll buy your rear seats and go with that shade of grey. How much? I already have the dimensions made out and crossmembers made. I just need to to the work. Shouldn't be hard as long as I avoid the gas tank :O. A spare is god considering I am on a budget to and need the full sized one to get me to where I need just in case.

Is this in your Spirit? They could be had with a solid fold or 60/40 fold seats, so it's not TOO hard. You need the upper and lower seats, the side bolsters, and the hinge mechanisms from each side, plus the metal section that covers the wiring bundle behind the rear seat. For the split folds, there is a bracket in the center that supports the inside hinge of each section of the bottom of the seats that you have to use. A grinder gets it loose easily enough, just drill and grind the spotwelds loose. There is body sealer around the edges, but the grinder sparks should set that on fire and get rid of it....then just weld the bracket into position and there you go!

I converted my Duster from solid fold to split fold, and it wasn't hard at all. Well, other than finding a donor car. But a fair number of the Spirits, maybe half of them, that I've seen in the junkyards had the solid fold seat. Actually, come to think of it, I'll take odds that LeBaron sedans would be your best bet for finding the pieces, they tended to be pretty optioned-out from the get-go.
