okay guys,

trying to check out why my mum's passenger side, manual window, wont crank. goes about an inch down. i suspect its a dent in the door (thats near the outside door latch) or the slide is damaged.

that's beside the point. i'll post if i need help on the diagnosis.
the problem is i cant make a diagnosis because im too afraid of breaking the door skin when im taking it off.

obviously the bottom 3/4 are just pins and that bit just pops out. however the seal near the window i cannot get out and im afraid of breaking the glass or crumbling the cardstock that makes up the door skin.
it appears theres a metal tang underneath but i have NO idea how it gets off.
can anybody help me!?

thanks,
ian

its hard to explain or photograph but your correct.

to hold the trim panel and that rubber seal tightly against the glass theres a lip on the trim panel that goes over the door shell. and on the door shell theres little 2 or 3 "barbs" for a lack of better words that stickout and catch the panel lip. really made to go together and never be taken apart

after you've popped all the clips along the panel sides & bottom. (7 or 8 of them) grab the panel in the upper corners, (the curved portion of the panel top is plastic not cardboard) and gently pull up and push in at the same time to unhook those barbs. FSM says to lower the glass as you need the clearence but if your carefull you can remove the panel with the glass up

I can take pictures tomorrow (later today really) if you cant figure it out.

that rubber seal is stapled to the panel, they get very brittle and hard with age. see the corner where I patched mine

JC whitney carries generic belt line seals if necessary

Slide it back and forth from left to right as well to get them loose.

Honestly, you just gotta be rough getting Shadow door panels off. They're not going to break. I didn't want to watch the first time I had my brother remove mine for me. Now though, I learned you gotta slide them side to side and pull up hard.

Grease the window channel behind the glass. The window has plastic/metal "skis" (for lack of a better word) that ride in the channel. Once there's no grease left, the window will pop, bind, etc. The crank will even skip teeth inside the regulator. The easiest & cheapest way I've found is to put grease in the corner of a small ziploc bag & cut a tiny part of the corner off. Put the corner of the bag in the channel & squeeze gently. Just don't use too much or get it on the glass. If the car has an automatic passenger seatbelt, you can use the pastry frosting grease bag for that, too.
Even if this isn't the cause of the problem, it's still good maintenance for any P-body.

Edit: Don't use a cheap bag. The seam would probably split, causing a rather annoying mess.
