My '89 Daytona Shelby needs a driver's seat. The original enthusiast seat did not come with the car, it instead has a base model version which sucks. And the lower bolt in the seatback sheared off so the seat is junk now anyways. I haven't seen a nice Daytona interior in the yards here in years. I've been scanning the yards looking for something non-Daytona that's comfortable but supportive for say road race/autox, but could still pass for stock to the unfamiliar. I grabbed a seat from an '04 Stratus this weekend because it looked decent and was comfortable, but it didn't work out how I wanted so I tossed my office chair in the car for now (office chair was made from a '92 LeBaron convertible seat). I'm not thrilled with that and would like my comfy office chair back. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter? There's an '04 Neon at the yard now and I actually like the seats in that, but the track is weird and I don't know if I can make it work without a welder. Hm.

Early 90s Beretta GTZ seats are GREAT, but you'd have to make either custom brackets or mounts.

Well.......as for the original seat that was in the car....the sheared off bolt is not that difficult to remove from the *captive nut* that is hidden inside of the seatback support..generally it should be able to turn freely as there is no tension on it now. A drill bit & an easyout will get it out if you can't turn it freely. At least you'll have the proper seat holding you in place until you find the ones you want. I just went thru this same minor annoyance recently.

If the seat wasn't so worn out I would get the broken bolt out and fix it. But it's a base seat and the padding is long since dead so I gave up on it.

The LeBaron seat is a direct fit for the Daytona and it's actually very comfortable. It'll make due for the time being. But I liked having it as an office chair (for which the Stratus seat sucks). Maybe I'll look for a 2.5 or 3g Daytona.

My girlfriend in high school had a Beretta. It was a base model, but had the 3.1 V6 in it. The seats didn't terribly impress me then. But that was in the late 90's so I don't remember all that well. Are the GTZ seats different from the base model?

hey i got seats from a early 90's shadow ES, the pattern looked identical to the spirit r/t / es seats but they were manual and they had much better support on the side and backrest. they sayed "shadow" embroidered in the headrest too

LoL. It's fine. The seat was just barely hanging on and it finally broke completely. I had it propped up with a stereo speaker for a day.

I think I actually like the later model Daytona seats better than the earlier ones as far as comfort and such. I guess I'm on the lookout for a later model pair in gray.

You know, I didn't even think about it. But I still have the Spirit. I probably could have used the seat out of that. I keep forgetting I have these things. LoL.

Yeah, they are roughly equivalent to the Enthusiast seats. More thigh support in front, more lateral bolstering for the legs and hips, and shoulder bolsters. The only bad thing is that the cloth is pretty wimpy, so they are usually split out on the base.

If you want a truly GREAT seat, find a set of late 90s Grand Prix AL-7 seats. They are almost as $$$$ as Recaros though.

I put a set of '90 Daytona seats in my '86 Laser, but had to make adapters for the bolt holes to work, didn't require much work. The seats look and feel much better. The Laser's seats are the same as '89 and older Daytonas.

I can tell you, if they did exist then they'd be grabbed up in a hurry. This community is a greedy lot when it comes to rare items. I've personally never seen such a thing from the factory (except in the new Charger/Ram Daytona). Was probably a custom job someone had done prior to your brother getting it. Although if there was a rare option for embroidered seats, I'd love to see pictures of that.

my local junkyard says I can have any 'normal' bucket seat for 20$ ; leather and multi-power types are more$

I saw some nice ones in a later celica (all manual, 'enthusiast' type) and accord (manual but only had power lumbar?) ; but the ones in the Geo Metro looked the lightest

next time I'm bringing my wrenches and my scale omni front buckets are 38# each !! :heavy:

anyone else know any junkyard LIGHTWEIGHT seats ? besides the civic HF ...

I have been looking around for a new drivers seat too. My 86 daytona has the black leather enthusiast seat but the air bag is dead and it doesnt recline. I really liked the seats in my 92 talon but they were maroon so that wouldnt work.
