I was wondering if anyone has any methods of getting odors out of their cars interior... My glhs was sitting outside for quite some time before I bought it, and unfortunitely mice were living in it and have left behind a very bad odor of mouse droppings and such...yes it smells very bad.I need to know if I rent a shampoo/steam cleaner, am I gonna be able to get rid of the smell? I plan on taking the seats and carpet out and cleaning down the floors and trunk with bleach or something, along with replacing the headliner. Do you think this will get rid of the smell?
Should I just buy a new carpet for the car? I took the hatch carpet out that covers the spare tire and put it in the washer, it seems to have gotten rid of the smell atleast for that part of the car.

Anyone have any suggestions to get rid of this stench?
it would be EXTREMELY appreciated!!!

Pull the carpet and then steam clean it (a household unit will work fine). Let it dry completely.. then spray it down with FABREEZE....

OR! u could just pull out the front seats... u dont really have too.. Go out and buy some carpet shampoo.. OR use hot water and dish detergant with hot water... get ur self a nice hard bristle scrub brush and grab the shop vac (take the paper bag outta the shop vac). Go to ur nearest walmart or whatever u have and buy 1 bottle of spray cleaner... Any automotive spray cleaner (castrol stuff or eagle1 or mothers).

Spray the carpets down with the spray cleaner( put more under the seats and where the mice sh!t). THEN get out ur nice hot water and grab the scrub brush and scrub like u Never scrubbed b4... This will fluffen up ur carpets and make em soft as well as make em smell good. Take the shop vac and suck up the soapy water.. one floor pan at a time ( scrub driver side then use the shop vac n suck up the water, Move on to the other side of the car)

U should always do ur seats first tho..

Sometimes most older cars, after scrubbing them they will smell like stinky feet.... this is from the carpets not getting cleaned PERIOD. so u would probably have to scrub em again..

Also if u do not get all the water up or dont let it dry.. u will get a awful nasty musty smell in the carpets.

*Tip. if u want ur soap to spread much easier on the floor when ur scrubbing... take a garden hose with a nozzle and spray a light mist over the carpet.
