Finally got my Omni, but there's one problem; the instrument cluster lights. All the gauges work fine when it is just running without the lights on.

When the turnsignal is on, the correct indicator light blinks, but the other indicator blinks faintly. The tach jumps around also.

When the headlights are on (unless the dimmer switch is all the way off) then both turn signal indicators come on, as well as the headlight buzzer and a few other lights that I didn't take specific note of. None of the gauges light up, but the heater controls and the cigarette lighter lights work.

The headlight switch was replaced with one from a boneyard before I got it. I'm hoping that is the problem, but my other thoughs are a bad ground or a bad cluster ( ). Thoughts?

Do your radio or ashtray lights do anything funny?

As for the tach, its a common problem, you need to remove the circuit and look at it under a magnifying class, and resolder some joints. They're poorly soldered from the factory, and seperate. All you really have to do is heat them all up to fix it. Very simple.

pulled the cluster, everything looked fine. The headlight switch looked good too. Bad cluster?

tried all the ones I could find. Two on the fender skirt, and the engine ground and the firewall ground strap. Any others that I missed?

It's the rust on your roof...
Paint it!

Just kidding.
Did you check the dimmer switch yet Austin?

Maybe get a pull-n-save one and just replace as a test?

Just look at the love I get. Supposedly the switch was replaced before I got it. I pulled it (at your place Will) and it looked good to me, but who knows. Maybe I'll come snag the one from your car:big grin:
