Howdy...I am buying two more SHelby's this Saturday.the seller stated that in addition to the VNT turbo in the box (!) there was a "plethora" of other parts to be had, icluding two Digital Dash arrangements for the Daytona. I see that some people have canned' these from wrecks, and installed them. is it an easy mod? I only remember what the 84/85 Lasers looked like with Digital guages...they were "ok" I guess...but analog has always een my fav. (Its a pilot thing...!) Anyway, does anyone know if its a "bolt in" mod, and if so, is it a long-drawn out job, or relatively easy?? Last, dont need two..one is for sale..any takers??

I think it's pretty easy, I was thinking of doing it to my Daytona. Here is a guy that I found that does conversion kits, looks like a plug and then go play thing.

Make sure you have the plugs that go with the dash. The analog and digital plugs are different. The wires from the digi dash will have to be spliced in to the analog wire harness. Other than that it fits right in the dash. I've done this swap in my Daytona. Here are the schematic to use for this swap. Hope this helps.

Also depends on which digital dash you have. Do you have a pic of it? I have the wiring diagrams for most of them. If you don't want to shell out the clams for a kit, soldering your own up is a piece of cake. I cut (dremmeled) out the 2 round conenctors off the old dash, soldered wires to the plugs to the new digi dash, and it worked fine. The nice thing now is that if I ever want to go back, I just unplug it and pick an analog one at a junk yard...no splices everywhere....

The guy that threw in the Digital dash on the 2 car deal I just made didnt get the plugs from the donor car...so, in a nutshell, the Digital dash with very few miles on it, is available! Somebody make an offer...its in top condition, and was working with no problems on the old parts car he had.

couple of questions about this newer style of dash, do you think I could convert my 84 digital speedo to the newer style, and how high does the speed go in mph, I cant stand the fact that my current speedo only goes to 85.
Thanks

Here is a link to a guy's site that converted his dash to the new style in a 86 GLH-S.
Jeff Barnett's web site.
I thought about doing this in my Rampage.
Hope this helps.

HMMM.. I just realized the 84's have a speedo cable. The 86's must be electronic. I'm not sure how you could convert that over. I'm sure there's a way.

no, my 84 does not have a speedo cable. It has a digital dash, but it only goes to 85 mph.

I think the cars with the analog gauges have a cable, but the digital dash cars dont. Thanks for the link, that helps alot.

My Daytona had a analog dash with out the cable.
If you could find a wiring diagram for you car that shows your dash it should be pretty easy to do.

I converted my Daytona to digital dash, and then converted back about 3 days later. Hated it. Impossible to get a good idea of the engine RPM, they needed a digital readout in addition to the goofy bargraph. It was also not reading my engine sensors properly, and my fuel gauge flat out didn't work on it. And it was too **** bright, couldn't get it to dim, but I may have if I hadn't found so many other problems that made me not bother finding out why it wouldn't dim.

There is a dimmer wire you have to connect to somewhere. Yea, I having problems with my fuel gauge it reads full all the time. My oil pressure gauge won't work eigther.

Yup, those are the two exact bugs I was having. Like the digital cars got a different oil pressure sender, and I don't know what the deal was with the fuel sender. I flat out can't live without a fuel gauge. These gas tanks are waaayy to small as it is. Wish I could put a minivan gas tank in my Daytona..
