my old glh has this problem and my new glhs seems to have the problem too --- i can't be the only one, has anyone found a fix for it?

when rolling up my window at highway speeds the window gets sucked outward and rolls up to the outside of the doorframe.

looking further into the problem it seems that the plastic guide that sits on the center rail wears down or partially breaks, letting the window "slop" back and forth.... when it "slops" forward, the edge comes out of the window frame guide and therefore the glass is permitted to come in or out a half inch.

has anyone replaced the plastic guide themselves? is it rivetted on? did you get the pieces anywhere or buy a whole new center rail at the dealer?

You're not the only one. Mine doesn't roll up right either, and i have to hold it while i roll it up. It is kind of annoying, but i haven't tried to fix it.

Replacing the "window run" should solve that problem. I had that problem until I replaced mine...

so dave,

the "run" is that plastic guide between the glass and the rail?
if so, did you do it yourself or did you take it somewhere? is the plastic riveted to the rail or just snaps in there?

i'm calling the "rail" the center piece that runs vertically that is greased and the window runs up and down on.

ok im gonna try to explain my fix.... take door panel off.... there is a vertical window guide right in the middle of the door... see it?..... roll ur window down to where u can see the it in the access hole......now see the bracket that bolts to the window?...... it has 2 finger like pieces that go around the vertical brace with 2 plastic guides.....grab the window and move it back and forth notice how much play u got ?...... that is the problem!!!! what i did to fix mine was to get some pullties and push the window back into the run in the rear of the door and pulltie around the the front finger to take up some of the slack... after ur through grease the vertical track and pullties good..

The window run is the rubber/felt piece that seals the top of the window when it is rolled up all the way. However, it sounds like you are having movement left and right instead of in and out from the driver's point of view. In your case the "fingers" with the plastic piece are simply bent out and are causing the play. Grab a large pair of pliers and squeeze the fingers back together so they grab the "rail" better. Don't squeeze them so tight that the window won't roll up easily, but there shouldn't be much play there.

I hope that helps!

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the advice... yes, it's the left to right play that I'm troubled with. The problem with it is that the window can rock far enough to the right that it no longer sits in the B-pillar channel while rolling it up, which when coupled with the wind pressure at speed on the highway makes the window suck out of the car rolling it up.

I took a look at the plastic piece is actually broken --- actually is missing on one side of the channel. Does anyone know if this plastic piece is available aftermarket or OEM ? I can't seem to find it in the parts catalogs, not sure how it attaches either, maybe rivets?

Thanks again guys..

I have seen a PN for these in a book I have. I'll see if I can get the book back sometime soon and get you all the number.
