If you are near a large city, there should be a place that specializes in repairs. If you get it in quick it runs about 85 for a one hour repair. If you wait till it's falling off, you need a rebuilt column. In St. Louis, the company also comes to you.

My last 2 G bodies had columns like that. It's REAL easy to remove the column and replace it. It's held up by 6 nuts, and all the harness's on it unclip real easily. I just find a good column in the junkyard and swap. Make sure it's the SAME kind of car as yours, if you have a Daytona, get a Daytona column. If you have a H body Lebaron, get another H body Lebaron column. If you have cruise, try to find a column with the cruise controls already, otherwise you'll hate life trying to swap it (I did it, still amazed I got the high beam controls back in place and working).
Oh, and unless it's an L body, your column will pull right out of the floor after it's unbolted, it slides into a joint down there, no bolts holding it together.
If the column you get from the junkyard doesn't have keys, no worries, take the column to a locksmith shop before you install it. Walk right in with the column and they won't charge you much at all since you made it so easy for them.
Oh, and color.. My column used to be tan.. My interior is grey.. I painted it to match my interior. You'd never be able to tell.

This page was all I needed to fix mine:

After I fixed the loose column in my Shelby Lancer, my brother had me fix his '85 Impala and '81 Malibu!

The top bearing race had shattered in my '88 Daytona's column. There was nothing that could be done to fix the thing. And swapping the column is definately the easiest route.

Swap the whole column out because of a couple loose bolts? It really isn't that hard to do.

Yeah I had to do this to my `88 Shelby Z too. As far as I can tell there are 2 sets of bolts that tend to loosen off. Some are easy to get to, and some are far deeper. I had to go right in for mine, but all in all, it's not that hard to do. Just pay attention to how things come apart and you should be fine

Oh yeah, and the whole point of this is the loctite. Make sure you use it! Then you won't have to do it again in a couple months.

Usually just loose pins at the tilt part. I fixed the one in my Jeep. Typically easier to fix than replace. Plus then the key is the same and it is the right color too.
The factory shop manual has the details, or any Chebby manual will show it too.

i had to do it in a 87 sadow, there was 3 bolts that hold it to the tilt set up, go to autozone and rent a sterring wheel puller, i think it took me about an hour, and that was my first experience going into a column

unless your near detroit, i'll gladly do it for $50

it's not that hard there are four bolts that require a female torx to tighten.two or three bolts are easy to get to but the others require you to go a little deeper into the column. as stated earlier use loctite. whoever does the job be sure they remove all 4 bolts to do it right the first time.

I have went through 6 columns in my daytona and have used loc-tite in the last 3. One of them was a Lebaron column and it worked just fine. Make sure they have the same options though.
