Oops. Forgot that part. sorry about that. I'll post that up in the build thread. I got mine out of a 92 shadow. Its pretty hit and miss on what has them. you look under the hood on two different cars of the same year and one will have it and the other won't. My understanding is that they came in 89 and newer cars. So just head to the JY and start popping hoods on all the 4 cylinders till ya find one

You should probably add some info on building a downpipe with a flex pipe and how it fits when completed for reference. Another question. Will the power steering hoses from the ham can style power steering pump bolt up to the ZF(plastic) power steering pump? (looking at your thread it doesn't look like it). Another question - what are expected benefits of this (anyone translate this into increased HP, full boost at x amount less RPM and or better 1/4 mile times?) Great thread otherwise.

HE DOES :bang head: 4.5" radius pipe. If you're that helpless to figure out the rest with just pics then have a shop do it.

If it doesn't look like it and the pump is so completely differently shaped then common sense would say you grab the lines with the pump

Boost response is incredibly quick. Rockslingers mostly stock 2.5 will have the T2 turbo start producing boost under 2grand, and full boost by less than 2500rpms. That's VNT and Mitsu territory.

The thing spools real real quick. Now I went from stock exhaust minus a cat with a tu 2.5 swing valve to this with a full 3". I start boosting at about 1600-1700 rpm and get full 20 psi at 2400-2500 rpm.

I didn't realize this was in a Mini, now that I look closer I see your info says 89 woody voyager. That's righteous! The exhaust looks badass too!

Was $550 installed or just bent/cut?
For my Daytona its $150 for TU cat-back 3", v-band dp shouldnt be more than $200, and since I cant weld Doug's Muffler over on Gratiot will probably install it for $50 (at least thats what they charged my cousin for installing header-back 3" on his horizon)

So I'm looking at around $400 installed, plus the SV which is $170, and $30 for a good clamp, another $20 for studs/bolts/parts, probably $30 for the flex joint. So about $650 for the whole exhaust. Then I have to find the ZF PS pump and lines (probably not cheap).

GLHNSLHT2 I know you said the ATP downpipe is basically the same as running the 2.5" stock downpipe, and granted I know my experience with this is limited, I'm not an engineer and I dont know fluid dynamics or advanced physics or anything like that, but it seems that even the ATP DP/3" exhaust would be a significant increase over my stock DP/2.25" exhaust. How much better could the 4.5" radius be if its still 3" pipe? Just because it flows out smoother? Please enlighten me because its been nagging me all day.

Rockslinger pretty much summed it up but let me add some things. If you could see the air come out of a turbo with nothing on it it comes out in a cone shape. You want that airflow to continue that cone, The best flow would be like a 15 degree or so cone shape straight out the turbo to the side of the car. We can't do that though so we need to turn the exhaust. Stuff doesn't like to turn sharp. If the turn is too sharp air and water become turbulent on the inside radius and you get a loss of flow. Same with your car if you try and turn too sharp :)

So you put the biggest radius on the exhaust right off the turbo as you can. Since we know a 4.5" radius fits the ZF pump and a 6" radius (next size up) is too big we go with that. Smaller and you start hurting flow.

I think you mean to say the atp with the obx flows like a factory 2.5". basically imagine the air flowing strait into a wall and having to go down at a 90 deg angle from there. not real efficient, but that is what the obx and factory sv do. now imagine the air is flowing through a pipe that makes a nice gradual turn. the air likes that much better because it isn't forced. we can say its more like guiding it in the right direction.

it was 550 for everything bent, installed, and materials. For the van I figured after paying the 300 for a kit and having to pay 75 for the muffler, another Lord knows how much for a dp, then all the other parts and a weekend in the garage making welds that look like crap. I figured it would be worth my money to pay someone.

I also like to do things right, hence the $1k bottom end for only 20psi, and over $1.5k on other upgrades. Now, I'm getting to the point where I've spent enough money on this car and I just want to drive the damn thing, so I keep trying to make monetary shortcuts where I can. I know shortcuts can run you off a cliff, I'm just starting to get wallet fatigue. I have to upgrade my exhaust, its my huge #1 choke point right now, Its just hard for me to spend $700 on pipes and pumps. I'm going to do it, its just hard.

Good link too lol
