1989 2.5 turbo II Daytona (yes, it is now intercooled)
So far I have been getting the car worked on by A.J. Lemieux. Thanks again guys for all the input and for suggesting A.J.!
Daytonas IMO are some of the sleekest looking rides made. This is the third one I have had although one was considered more my wife's car than mine. Two were 89s and one was an 87. The 87 was a 2.2 turbo automatic, gray paint. The other 89 is shown in my album. It was a 2.5 NA automatic, white. I almost got a V6 Daytona which I was en-route to the dealership to test drive and it was sold before I got there. I was not very happy as I called the dealership and told them I was coming. I know... it is not mine until it is paid for but it still was disappointing. In the end the 2.5 had a lot of mods done to keep it "nimble", and fun.
This 2.5 turbo intercooled is so much more nimble than the other 2 Daytonas. The ES 89-91 body style is my favorite of the Daytona line. This car gets a lot more attention today since these are getting rare to find anymore. Although rare, so many Dodge vehicles from the 80s/90s used the same motor which helps a lot when needing parts. In other words, if just the Daytona had this motor, I might not have bought this Daytona. Parts availability is always a concern.
So far I have these upgrades done:
-Poly Engine, Trans and Upper Alternator Mounts
-Aluminum Lower Mount for Alternator by Rich Bryant
-Ground Wire Kit 8 gauge (helps the old wires a lot believe it or not to send the necessary power to all important systems)
-190 L/PH Fuel Pump
-180 Degree Thermostat
-Modified fan cage for more effective heat dissipation
-K&N Drop In Filter
-Grainger Valve MBC (currently set to stock 12PSI)
-Vaccum Hose Tower Mounted to Plenum (no more spaghetti mess of hose all over the place)
-Intercooler with same side inlet/ outlet
-TIAL 50mm blow off valve with 10lb spring
-Custom made by Wicked Auto air deflector
-Oil catch can (high quality, not a cheap unit)
Mods that I plan on getting:
-T3/T4 hybrid turbo
-Turbos Unleashed huge flowing exhaust manfold
-T2 ported intake manifold
-58mm throttle body
-Computer that is for an intercooled 2.5 turbo tuned to 15 or 16psi
-AEM fuel/ air monitor
-3" exhaust from manifold back
- Muffler will most likely be a Tsudo N1
- Resonator will be longest one I can find to mellow the volume and rasp since I am using N1
-Strut tower brace
-Stainless steel brake lines
-Heavier sway bars front and back
-Possibly larger injectors if needed
-Strengthen the transmission with better torque convertor and a limited slip differential
Goal is to be around 240hp and 270lbs tq.
0-60 in under 6 seconds
IROC RT was 225hp and made it to 60 in 5.7 seconds.
Mine might be a little heavier/ possibly slower with the automatic. Although I hear manual transmissions with a turbo car can lose up and go due to the shifts making the turbo have to spool back up again. So maybe the automatic will be fine at 225hp to get to 60 in under 6 seconds. I will find out... hopefully.
