Re: my hybrid laser

Here is a video, we screwed up the resolution by mistake on the camera.
14 psi in 1st and second 22 psi in 3rd and 4th
22 inch slicks
afr was getting close to 13 in top of 3rd
im having a bad habit of hitting the rev limiter at 7k still havent made a perfect run, not really accelerating very good in 1st gear, i just cant feather the throttle its either on or off no inbetween.

MOPAR all the way! Keep it man! Once I get some space I want to build up a hybrid engine as well.

Thanks man, my foray into mopar has infected me I started out figuring it would be a great cheap way to hone my turbocharging skills and it just has gotten out of hand, then all the non believers keep giving me motivation.

My machinist chuckled when i asked if my flywheel would handle 500 hp while standing surrounded by big blocks and then at the track the owner told me id need to invest another $20,000 to make my car run faster than 11.49 when i asked how fast i could go without a cage, ive always known the potential was there, i was thinking for 20k i could build 5 of these things lol.

Re: my hybrid laser

Took a cold compression reading today and was a bit surprised to see the pressure so high;
#1- 180
#2- 177
#3- 185
#4- 185
Looks like advanced auto has an mls gasket i can order that is .010 thicker plus its a 5 layer as opposed to the 3 layer gasket i have now but im going to have to enlarge the whole in my timing belt tensioner since its a little tighter than i want it right now and theres no room for loosening it up.

I was thinking about putting in some 2.0 cams but after checking into it the 2.4 cams have 20 degrees more duration so I fail to see the point of it, I was under the impression that the 2.0 cams were better for top end power but that seems to be just another internet fable, guess im gonna have to look into the crane cams the 16's look pretty nice for a street strip car ?

Re: my hybrid laser

Well i went out for a ride and was having a friend ride with me watching/operating the scanner, everything was lookin great no knock air temps just a few degrees above ambient timing set at 10 degrees with 18 psi boost afr in the low 11's egt's 1450 hit the gas in 3rd gear for about 3 seconds and pop tick tick tick, sounded like a lifter broke or somthing of that nature checked over all the gauges and vac was at 20, oil and coolant was good egt and wideband looked normal limped home pulled the head and theres a chunk missing out of the piston #1 directly in front of the intake port.

I guess the good news is the cylinder is still nice and the head is not marred up but, i think the real damage happened sometime previous to this as I had noticed a tapping noise that i thought was just a lifter and the motor was running a little rough and lacking a little bit of punch but with the vac being in the same spot it always sits i was a little confused about the roughness.

I also discovered my head gasket was leaking all over the place and the cap on the end of the head with the extra bolt on it was leaking oil presssure like a siv it appears to be coming out the opposite side where that short little 8 mm bolt is, it was spraying out the parting line just cranking the engine with the starter.

This just boggles my mind ive been very carefull about watching my afr and I did see the gauge go close 13-1 afr at the track so that must have been when she blew.

Anybody got a spare .020 2.5 J&E piston ? If not it looks like im going to be bumming for a while...

Re: my hybrid laser

Yep took a 1 inch chunk out of the rim right above the 1st piston ring, still had 120 psi compression and the rings are just sittin there where they belong, not sure if im liking j&E anymore after seeing how thin the breakage area was

Re: my hybrid laser

Yea im still lookin for it, turbine blades are good so its either in the housing, manifold or head, im gonna try and post some pics, I take all the blame it might have happened no matter what brand if the afr was going lean on that cylinder only, thinkin im gonna put an egt bung in each cylinder so i can move it around and check each one at a time to find individual problems.

WOW, I am glad I picked up a set of Venolias then. Too bad it happened. Are you going to swap out the piston then?
