Well i went out for a ride and was having a friend ride with me watching/operating the scanner, everything was lookin great no knock air temps just a few degrees above ambient timing set at 10 degrees with 18 psi boost afr in the low 11's egt's 1450 hit the gas in 3rd gear for about 3 seconds and pop tick tick tick, sounded like a lifter broke or somthing of that nature checked over all the gauges and vac was at 20, oil and coolant was good egt and wideband looked normal limped home pulled the head and theres a chunk missing out of the piston #1 directly in front of the intake port.
I guess the good news is the cylinder is still nice and the head is not marred up but, i think the real damage happened sometime previous to this as I had noticed a tapping noise that i thought was just a lifter and the motor was running a little rough and lacking a little bit of punch but with the vac being in the same spot it always sits i was a little confused about the roughness.
I also discovered my head gasket was leaking all over the place and the cap on the end of the head with the extra bolt on it was leaking oil presssure like a siv it appears to be coming out the opposite side where that short little 8 mm bolt is, it was spraying out the parting line just cranking the engine with the starter.
This just boggles my mind ive been very carefull about watching my afr and I did see the gauge go close 13-1 afr at the track so that must have been when she blew.
Anybody got a spare .020 2.5 J&E piston ? If not it looks like im going to be bumming for a while...
