Question Oil (idiot) light, giving me problems.

I'm back guys. 89 Caravan 2.5 turbo. Oil light is staying on sometimes when I start car. It did something like this about 1 1/2 yrs. ago. Wouldn't go off at first so I bought a gauge, then it stopped doing it, so I never put gauge on. Now for the last week or so, sometimes when I start the car the light won't go off or it stays on for a longer time. If it stays on, I shut it off. Few minutes later, it's okay. But today I tried to start it like 5 times and light would not go off. Then after like 5 mins. started and ok. Started it a few more times and ok. What is going on?

Re: Oil (idiot) light, giving me problems.

Your issue could be a faulty sending unit or a mechanical engine issue.
First you need to verify actual oil pressure with a mechanical gauge.

Oil Pressure Specs(Chrysler)
At Idle - 4 PSI Minimum
At 2000 RPM's - 25-75 PSI

General rule of thumb is 10 PSI for every 1000 RPM's.

You have an oil pressure gauge, use it!

@ Tryingbe, can ya come over and put it on for me? Ya see, I just lost my mechanic cause he moved out of town and I'm trying to find someone else to take his place. If I knew how to do it and I had all my tools (that were stolen out of garage) I might give it a shot. But I don't, so give a girl a break. I know quite a bit but definitely not everything!

Hey NAJ, or whoever can answer this. Do I have an oil sending unit, or just an oil pressure switch? Cause I just changed switch in Aug, (had a leak). Any diagrams on changing switch.

There is a large SDAC chapter in Chicago. Go over and join turbo-mopar.com, and hit up some of the folks there. I'm sure you would be able to find a few guys willing to help you out. Join SDAC while you are at it, that will definitely help grease the wheels on getting some good quality help...

Re: Oil (idiot) light, giving me problems.

OK, found out only oil pressure switch, but also found out I have a crack in the front of my frame. If I get it welded, is it still something I'll have to check periodically. Can't believe nobody ever noticed this.
@83scamp , already working on the SDAC thing. Thanks for heads up on turbo-mopar.
