'93 Daytona IROC R/T Speedometer

I have a '93 Daytona IROC R/T. The speedometer isn't registering the correct speed of vehicle. It maxes out at roughly 30MPH and seems be be off by at least 1/2 the actual speed

The odometer is working properly for what I can tell.

If I change out the speed sensor on 5 speed transmission would this fix the problem?

Re: '93 Daytona IROC R/T Speedometer

The way to verify if the VSS is at fault is to connect a scanner and drive the vehicle to see if the engine controller is seeing the proper MPH, if it is then your issue is elsewhere, if not then you can assume the VSS is at fault.

Other than that you would be guessing, your issue could also be in the wiring to the dash, the cluster or the speedo itself.

Re: '93 Daytona IROC R/T Speedometer

I don't have scanner so I got a new speed sensor on order for the manual 568 transmission. The car has 130K on it so I'll take it as preventive maintenance if it doesn't fix the problem.

This 568 Trans has three electrical terminals on the Speed sensor, not like two terminal found on the older standard Transmission like the 525 and the 520 found on my '86 and '87 Daytona's.. I'll let you know if it fixes the speedo problem. Ron

Re: '93 Daytona IROC R/T Speedometer

Update, The new AIRTEX 5S4684 speed sensor had three flat spade connector and with matching pigtail which meant that I would have to cut exist three prong (round pin) connector to use the new three spade pigtail connector. If you know where this connector harness is located removing and replacing the connector pigtail would not be easy.

Looks like Chrysler replaced round pin connector speed sensor for 1992 through 2005 Chrysler vehicles with the OEM Mopar Vehicle Speed Sensor Kit 5013660AA 3 spade connector which is the same as the Airtex P/N above.

Old original round three pin speed sensor

I found a used original Mopar speed sensor with three round pins and installed on car and it operated the speedometer the same way. The Odometer and Trip mile are still working properly.

I believe I have to remove the bezel on speedometer and reset (re-zero) the speedometer MPH indicator. I've been really busy and haven't had a chance to work on car since I replace the original Speed sensor with the used speed sensor.
