87 Turbo LM?ís

Iíve got a LM from an 87 J-body Lebaron turbo, with the red and blue connectors and no spot for the MAP sensor(uses external under the hood). Just curious if this LM would use the later 4-wire AIS, or the 2-wire goofy one from the log manifold?
I never saw the car it came out of, so idk what manifold it had:(
I also donít know if itís a simple cut & dry question like Iím making it sound, or not...

Re: 87 Turbo LM?ís

I knew it was a T1 Auto LM. Does that mean log intake would’ve been in that car? Was 87 T2 the only 87’s that didn’t use log intakes?

Re: 87 Turbo LM?ís

If that is what it means, that’s a bummer. I will be in serious need of an 87 T2 LM, if that’s the case. I already converted my 87 TBI to the newer style T1 intake, TB, MAP and added the necessary wiring, but this LM might be fricking me...

Re: 87 Turbo LM?ís

I'm pretty sure it would be the log motor

maybe ask about reflashing the second gen TI onto the lm ?
but ais would probably then be different

Re: 87 Turbo LM?ís

87 TI = log

but *yes* you can socket yur '86-7 TI LM,
then run a "TII" cal with either a 2-piece or 1-piece intake mani,
or even better- a custom 1-bar N/A MPFI cal,
and either will need the 4-wire AIS to function properly..

Re: 87 Turbo LM?ís

Are the PM’s any different between the 87 T1 and T2?
Does T2 still run the injectors in pairs like the T1 (1&2 and 3&4 together)?

According to http://www.glmwpg.com/ServiceManuals/87p.PDF
all turbo PM are the same.
Yes all LM and SMEC are batch firing, For sequential firing you need a SBEC or SBEC2

Re: 87 Turbo LM?ís

there's challenges thar too...

simple solution is find the TII lm.. easy enough there's thousands of them out there

better is the DC/MP one .. but a lot harder to find .. and the swap to smec might be a better idea at that simple point

you could get away with a J body lebaron engine compartment and dash harness
BUT you'll have to give up the power mirrors or sort the mirror power and switching out after the fact

and you would have to splice in a set of headlamp motor connector
- J's only have one h-l motor so the lead is there but it has one connector in the center

Re: 87 Turbo LM?ís

This is an 87 Aries TBI auto, I was just looking to keep it N/A, but add the T1 intake stuff for the fuel injection. The stock PM was blipping out everytime it was hot out and I already had the parts (newer T1 intake, and LM/PM from that 87 T1 Auto J body) laying around to swap what I thought was gonna work.
It runs, but seems pretty rich and if I put it in gear, it stalls unless I manually turn the idle way up.

I did a similar swap in my Spirit, with a flex fuel SBEC, but that was already an SBEC car, so clearly this would take a lot more wiring to run one of those. Although it does look do-able unless there’s something to it I’m not seeing...
I’d definitely rather have the sequential firing injectors as well
