Exclamation Windsheild Wiper Assembly

Ok so my windsheild wipers havent worked sence who knows when.
i am trying to fix them but am stuck with how to reassemble them. I got new bushings because the old ones fell apart so the (arms that connect the motor to the other thingys that make the wipers rotate) wipers fell apart internally. Me and my dad took it all apart and mixed all the parts up and dont remember to which side the arms went(2 different lengths) and we cant figure out how both arms are saposed to fit onto the wiper motor. because both arms need bushings but there is only 1 spot on the wiper motor that accepts bushings.

If anyone has any pictures of there setups please post them.

Re: Windsheild Wiper Assembly

you can see the lips on the steel arms that shows how the bushings fit into it.

Re: Windsheild Wiper Assembly

There are 2 style bushings. you need 3 cup style and 1 with a hole. Here is a few pictures to help get them back together and the angles right. The arm that uses the bushing with the hole has a differant size hole in the arm. And of course goes on the wiper motor first.

Heres a video on popping in the bushings. The dealer bushings are easier to work with. If you have aftermarket bushings put white grease in the cups. OEM bushings come with grease in them.

Re: Windsheild Wiper Assembly

to which side when you are looking at the car does the long arm go?
im going to assume the 3 cup bushing is the one that connects the 2 arms to the motor so my question is does it have a layer of rubber in between the 2 metal arms my dad needs to know because he is blind and cant see the pictures very well. it lookes like there is but it looks like on your pictures the bussing was falling apart.(most of my bushing were missing, only bushing left on mine were the ones that connected to the arm and pivot shaft). is the middle bushing just one slid peice or is it multiple bushings you have to put together between the arms and the motor?

These center bushings are the last thing i need so my car is legal to drive on the road. but its not gonna rain tomarrow so my dad said were gonna try our luck.

Re: Windsheild Wiper Assembly

the bushing with a hole is sorta like a bushing with the cap missing. it will be the rubber between the arms. I would use the white grease. nothing dry.

If you have the cup bushings just go to mopar and get the bushing with the hole. They sell them individually. They should stock them. They fit most mopars made between the mid 70's to at least the late 90's

I forget which side the long and short arms go but if the wiper motor is in the park position it will only bolt in one way. It will show you if the rods are up or down. This will show you which one fits which way. My guess is long one drivers side.

To line up your arms look at this picture and at the notches for the bushings. If you line up the arms with the notches set up like in this picture it should go together.

Re: Windsheild Wiper Assembly

ok well my dad went to all of our local autoparts stores and none of them had the bushings with the holes in the middle so he then went to 2 dealerships and they also didnt have them.
one of the dealerships is going to call him back on monday if they can either order the right part or can find one in the warehouse.
if we have no luck our only other option is going to be to cut a hole in the center of one and go like that.

Re: Windsheild Wiper Assembly

they are available from mopar. If the dealer can't find the number he is an idiot. The pictures I posted are from a lebaron I am stripping while putting another one together. I rebushed the other car 2 months ago and bought the bushings then. I also have bought 5 sets over the last 4 years.
Give him part number 5211 015 you need 1. that is the hole. part number 3799 089 is the cup your car uses 3 of them. A set of 4 should cost about 20 bucks.

Re: Windsheild Wiper Assembly

yea we have the cup style ones already.
my dad got them from Autozone and paid 7 for a set of 2 and there were also bushings for jeep, ford, and gm vehicles, when he went to the dealership and they showed him the same bushings they also cost 7 for JUST 1 bushing
so we spent 14 for all 4 bushings plus enough bushings for 3 other vehicles instead of 21 for just 1 vehicle and even better is we have a ford and 2 gm products so if they ever need bushings we have some ready

Re: Windsheild Wiper Assembly

The bushing for the links arms to motor are available.
I recently ordered 2 for myself.
We have the Chrysler Parts Catalog in PDF on site.
Download the 85 Catalog, look up the part # and either call your dealer with the # or contact...
wholesalemopar.com and they will hook you up.
This is where I get all of my Mopar parts.

Re: Windsheild Wiper Assembly

that catalog will deffinatly help for when i replace some of the junk parts that no longer work. like the drivers door hinge that sags about 1 inch so i have to pickup and slam the door just to be able to shut it. and when im in the car its almost impossible to shut.
my dad is going to get on and look at some more parts in the catalog that im going to need hes been lookin over all sorts of little parts that i wouldnt have even thought to check out.
i know i need new rear suspension(any good brand), tires, brakes and i think rotors(what do i look for when i buy new rotors?), and a reverse light.

Re: Windsheild Wiper Assembly

Your door hinge issue is probably the door hinge pins and bushings that are worn.
The pins and bushings are available thru any parts supplier, they are in the "Help" section.
If you have a stock braking system the rotors from your normal parts supplier should be fine, I prefer Advance or Napa over Autozone.
I have standard aftermarket rotors on my Daytona with no issues.
Rear Suspension? Exactly what parts? Shocks?
Again this depends what you are looking for, stock replacement?
Tires you will get numerous opinions on depending on what you are looking for them to do.

I have some of the aftermarket ones in my tool box at work that I won't use. The OEM ones are softer and better in my opinion. I also threw out all the other ones that came with them since they sat in my box and the county I work for had no vehicles that needed them after 4 years in my box. Either way you need the bushing with the whole and I have never seen an aftermarket one of those. Give the dealer the number I posted above and see what they say.

Re: Windsheild Wiper Assembly

idk what to look for with the suspension all i know is it is soft and sits low and jumps out to the side when i hit a big bump.
tires im just going to get some standard cheap tires because im not going to be driving much. during the winter my moms van is a good vehicle it is great in the snow.
the hinges are welded so could it really be the bushings and pins.
