Question performance ECM Vs performance ECU

I was shopping on ebay and noticed a performance ECM computer (the computer thats inside the engine compartment next to the battery)
And also found a Computer (the one inside the car pass. side) and I want to know about the ECM and what make that a performance computer cause now I don't no what to get.

Thanks

It depends on what year your car is. If it is an 87 or earlier, then you need the performance computer in the passenger side kick panel (Logic Module). If your car is an 88 or newer, then you need the computer next to the battery (Smec, Sbec). The computer that is next to the battery on the earlier cars, has no performance availability. That computer just controlls voltages and other misc stuff. Any questions?
