idling problem cold or warm start keep 1700rpm

i own a dodge daytona 2.2 idling usually Under 1.000 rpm but i used it today after 10 month sitting in the garden.
at first start rev was OK. but after a short drive i pushed it at 120mph and the idling switch to 1.600 to 1.800 rpm but do not drop when engine is cold

what shall check or fix, i read for Honda 2.2 sohc it is vaccm ptoblem.
shall i check or buy new one

Re: idling problem cold or warm start keep 1700rpm

generally a high idle means a "vacuum" leak ..

I would start by checking all your lines..
are you still running original stock stuff ? they're known for cracking and leaking..

any codes ?

Also you can check the AIS operation as it could be stuck open.
In my car I have seen both vacuum leaks and stuck AIS

Re: idling problem cold or warm start keep 1700rpm

unless you're trying to keep the car 100% original,
then you should consider replacing the original splitter and hard plastic vacuum lines with a vacuum block and new soft lines...

the old likely cracked lines are a real problem and will cause driveability problems (like high idle due to leaks) at best,
and may cause engine failure at WOT if e.g. the MAP signal is compromised and the engine doesn't get enough fuel

Re: idling problem cold or warm start keep 1700rpm

Drove the car at 120 mph and then had an issue...
I agree 100% on a vacuum leak.

Exactly what year/model/engine are we talking about?

I had to replace my factory plastic vacuum harness with a vacuum block about 12 years ago, after patching it for 10+ years it was causing all kinds of issues with vacuum/boost leaks.

As far as the AIS...
If the AIS pintle is extremely carboned it could cause it to stick but I would think that would have created other idle stalling issues before this.
Never hurts to look though.

Before traffic changed in Nevada I ran Jackpot to Vegas at 115 continous. At those speeds the turbo stays boosting. So your lines and AIS are under pressure non stop. Not using lock tight on a new AIS I've blown it off the TB. When you lift fast under boost with out a BOV the AIS takes a beating. Often keeping it clean will do it. But I've found a ton of T2 AIS that are spungy and thrashed. When you go to a 52mm TB it is easier to see this as most NA AIS are in good shape. But this is most likely a vac failure and could be a bad brake booster. Look for the whistles.

I pushed the Charger faster but the GLHS being a 4 door really sucks past 115. I've spun the tires at 145 and at 125 a wind gust picked it completely off the road and dropped it over 10 ft in an on coming lane. So 115 is as fast as it goes safely lol. Cruising speed, it also gets 24 MPG at 115.

Re: idling problem cold or warm start keep 1700rpm

According to Chrysler and Road And Track Magazine top speed for the 90 Daytona VNT is 135 MPH and that is "estimated".

I have only been at 100 MPH once in the 29 years I have owned my car and that was back in 1991/92 or 93 when she was still new and she did not struggle to get to 100, above that...???
Other than that my highest speed was 89 MPH in the quarter mile 11 years ago.
