Code 26 no start 1987 GLHS

Car is a 1987 GLHS with a MP stage II computer.

I was getting codes 26/27 but after repairing the injector harness which was brittle from heat I drove the car maybe 20 miles and it ran good. Started the car the other day and made it about a mile before it just shut off. Fuel pump not coming on and code 26.

I took the injector harness back off the car and everything seems to be fine. Cleaned the connector, cleaned the other connectors that run above the transmission to the power module. Verified the LM connections and PM connections are clean.

If I turn the key on I hear the asd relay for 1 second then it shuts off, car just cranks. I grounded the blue/yellow wire at the diagnostic port and the asd relay makes a weird static noise, the car also does some other weird things like the fan relay will click and the fan will rotate slightly, also some clicking coming from one of the solenoids on the passenger side. Fuel pump will not turn on with asd grounded. The Power module was recently replaced because of a bad voltage regulator, I'm wondering if the new one is also faulty now? It's a reman from rockauto. The fuel pump has maybe 2500 miles on it, it's a walbro 190 from FWDperformance.

Not really sure where to go from here. Any help is appreciated greatly.

Re: Code 26 no start 1987 GLHS

Welcome To TD!!!

As soon as I hear "remanufactured controller" and it is not through Chrysler I cringe.

Not that is your issue, however...
When I was a Commercial Sales Manager at Autozone it sometimes took 3-4 controllers before we got a good one.
Autozone stopped dealing with A-1 Cardone because of quality issues.

I will send you the 85-87 Codes 26/27 through PM.

Re: Code 26 no start 1987 GLHS

Thank you for the diagnostics NAJ, I made it to step #6 at the end it says "If there is no continuity, replace the power module."

These Cardone units are really junk then? It's the only one Rockauto has, looks like I'm sending this one back to them and hopefully I get a good one. Are there any other other suppliers available or should I post a wanted ad for used one? I don't trust the Cardone unit to not leave me stranded somewhere.

Re: Code 26 no start 1987 GLHS

I would absolutely open a thread in the "Parts Wanted" section and check your local JY's for an OE Mopar PM.

The Mopar # is 5226766 and fits ALL 85/86/87 Turbo Cars.

There are 5 available from one seller on...
https://www.rearcounter.com/5226766-parts1014933.html

The seller of these PM's is known as "Marty Mopar" and has been on this site for years, you may want to contact him.

Re: Code 26 no start 1987 GLHS

Received the replacement "remanufactured" unit from Rock Auto which has clearly been used before, both open ends are still covered in dirt from a previous installation. Installed it and the fuel pump turns on but no spark. No codes, car smells like it's flooding itself. I'm done with using Rock Auto.

Did you contact Marty?

Re: Code 26 no start 1987 GLHS

Kind of in a bind here since the cars inspection runs out at the end of the month, RockAuto is issuing a full refund. I contacted Marty and the power modules he sells are all used and untested, Wouldn't be able to ship until the 2nd week of October. The untested part worries me.

Open a thread in the "Parts Wanted" section or check your local U-Pull-It.

Will Marty stand behind the controller if it is faulty?
It is a Mopar unit so it has to be better than the aftermarket units.

Inspection is really not much of a concern if the car will not run.

Re: Code 26 no start 1987 GLHS

Just wanted to give an update on this. Another TM member had a used, known good working power module that I bought from them. Plugged it in and the car started right up, everything seems to be working again.

Thank you for the help NAJ, the GLHS lives again.

Re: Code 26 no start 1987 GLHS

Glad to hear the car is up and running.

That makes two members with faulty controllers that have been corrected in the past week, must be a bug going around, LOL!!!

If you encounter any other issues in the future or just have a question or need info Please feel free to ask.
