Yes I have the 287 bathtub head and this is what was in the engine it was running great for 3 years

87-90 Turbo 2.2 Turbo Intercooled piston made by Mahle, TI looks the same except for slightly different skirt. The good news is it's only flat/broken on one side.

Those are factory Mahle's, but that is definitely pistons for a swirl head. My guess is somebody put those in because they couldn't find bathtub pistons. Which should be OK, you are just going to have a slightly lower compression ratio, that's all. And your "squish" band is a lot smaller.

You would have better luck and probably spend less money looking for a decent shortblock to swap in for the time being.

the press pin 86 swerl head , larger dish pistons will work just fine with the earlier 85 bath tub style combustion chambers and the 85 press pin rods

- and I ran 'em at 12#'s of boost without issue

84-5 , smallest dish

86 medium dish

TII and 89^ 2.5 turbo largest dish with a small edge around the dish - not my favorite design

yes you can just put your old rod on a new-/different piston. My new set is not hyper pistons. and the used ones are Factory T2

I have a new set 0f 30 over pistons and 4 good 85 t1 rods with stock pistons also good.
