1988 2.5 Water Pump Housing

We have the new water pump but the "housing" the the pump bolts to that bolts to the block has a hole in it. Before i just slather it down in JB weld I thought I'd ask to see if anyone had such a piece. and if so what it would take to get it shipped to 76017. Ill see if I can get some pix of it up. It is in an '88 Plymouth Sundance. Not a turbo but I have found the turbo guys work on theirs so they know about needing parts.

Thanks Y'all
Rich

Re: 1988 2.5 Water Pump Housing

Welcome to TD!
I ran into the same problem with my 2.2 Housing. It was covered in & out with corrosion when I
took it off. Cleaning it up I discovered a hole about 1/16" where the pump's impeller sits. Reamed
out the hole to bare metal and put JB weld on the inside, smoothing it and when it set up some,
pressed down on the outside to form a "cap".
Hadn't installed it yet but I'm hoping that it'll work!
You might have to go this route if no replacement can be found.
Good luck!

That is the way I am leaning.
The hole is not too large but the corrosion sure did the interior no favors.

Re: 1988 2.5 Water Pump Housing

Alright, we have the new housing(thanks mr 2fast2dodge), but have run into the next problem. The new to me housing doesn't have a nipple to attach the heater hose to it. This brings me to the conundrum, do I keep searching(Mr Doza, if you have a shipped price on yours let me know), or drill and tap a hole and put in a nipple to attach the heater hose?

Anyone attempted the drill mod or is it just easier to find one and swap it on?

Thanks for the input.

Re: 1988 2.5 Water Pump Housing

or a little stroll through the boneyard to find a T that will fit the lower rad hose and provide a location for the heater hose

some newer cars are done like that

adding the heater hose location to the cold side rad tank might actually be easier - if you can solder
rad solder is 30/70 , same as body lead

Re: 1988 2.5 Water Pump Housing

Does the bottom outlet differ significantly? How do I know what style should be on my engine? It had the side out but it is a used car so I don't know what would be correct.

I have a deal working on a down outlet but if that wont work I wouldn't want that. I just have the no out let on there now and the heater hose plugged off. But I'm sure we will want the defrost to work come winter time.

Re: 1988 2.5 Water Pump Housing

Ok I have bottom out and rear out,
The late model pump housing will work on any year, but be warned, you must use the late model smooth pull because the belt turns the pump reverse rotation- as the early.
The housing scroll will be opposite.on the early and the pilot will be grooved.
I think the 89 is the odd ball pulley bolt spacing is odd.
PM me I can send pics if this site will work!
