89 Omni Gauges not working

Trying to figure out why all of the gauges in my 89 Omni are not working other than the cable speedometer. I have tried a new cluster, ECU, fuses are good, no sign of wire harness botch jobs and connectors look good and grounds are good. Does anyone have any ideas? Im stumped. Thanks

Re: 89 Omni Gauges not working

I an going to Assume you checked the ground circuit for continuity to ground with a digital ohmmeter and checked the fuses by using a 12 volt test lamp or digital voltmeter to check for power in and out of the fuses.

Your first step is to verify power into the cluster.

There are two power feeds into the cluster...
1)Connector 2 (5 wires) Cavity B, BK Wire, Power In for the Gauges from the Ignition Switch...??? (Wiring is sketchy)
This is the power feed you have to check.
The other power feed is from Fuse #12 for Illumination only.

The Cluster Ground Circuit is in Connector 1 (9 Wires) in Cavity 9, BK Wire.

Do you have 12 Volts at Cavity B of Connector 2?
Do you have Continuity to Ground (less than 5 ohms) from Cavity 9 of Connector #1?

Any questions/problems feel free to post and ask.

PM being sent with wiring.

Re: 89 Omni Gauges not working

I am getting info from a friend who is having this issue and he stated that he is getting voltage to the cavity B connector only on startup and its only 3 volts.

Thanks for the help sorry for the delayed reply

Re: 89 Omni Gauges not working

According to the wiring diagram there are only two power feeds into the cluster...
1)From Fuse #12 on the OR wire (Cavity 10 in the connector with 9 wires)
2)12 volts from the ignition switch on the BK wire (Cavity B in the connector with only 5 wires).

There should be 12 volts on both of those circuits at the cluster with the key in the "on" position.
From what you have stated there are 12 volts on the OR wire in Cavity 10 but there is not 12 volts on the BK wire at Connector B.
If this is correct you will need to locate the ignition switch at the lower steering column and check for 12 volts at the switch connector on the GY/BK wire.

If there is 12 volts present at the ignition switch connector then the wire from the switch to cluster is open or has excessive resistance.

If 12 volts are not present on the GY/BK wire at the ignition switch then verify there is no physical damage to the switch connector and that no terminals/wires are burnt/loose/corroded/cracked/broken.
If the connector/terminals and wiring are OK, replace the ignition switch.
