background: Had a bad connection at the vss and speedo would peg the stop at 140mph for a few seconds when cold at takeoff.
Cleaned connections and threw in a different vss too. Now when the car is off, the speedo sits at 20mph. When I drive it, it reads consistently 20mph over my actual speed. Did I bend my speedo needle axle? Can I just pull the cover and push the speedo needle back down to zero?
possiably the shaft turned inside the hub of the pointer
so pull the pointer off the shaft , and reinstall on shaft in the correct position
cycle the kye once before you go to put the pointer back on the shaft - it might not be at "zero" after you yank the pointer off so the key should set it right even without the pointer
but be carefull
that pointer HAS to come straight off of the shaft
the shaft is like a needle and it snaps off really easy if you bend it sideways
get a finger tip tight in on either side of the pointer hub with the nails against the gauge face and "lift" the pointer away from the gauge face
use your finger tips like levers to pry the pointer off
don't try to pluck it off the shaft with a thumb and finger
this gives a more steady feel and lift & helps prevent breaking the shaft
Remove the cluster/cluster mask to gain access to the speedo needle.
Watch this video and it will show you how to remove and replace the speedo needle properly.
The needle has stops at 0 so it will be placed properly.
Update: Pulled cluster and gently pushed speedo needle back down to zero. Works great now
