Re: ASD will not actuate

I will double check fuses. There was one blown a week ago when I was looking for a suitable fuse for dimming meters. It was a five amp. So there is a place to check .

Re: ASD will not actuate

Is there anything in the car that is staying on?

Be absolutely sure no fuses are blown.
If a fuse blows the current will look for an alternate path to ground and if it finds one in an alternate circuit that circuit/component will stay powered.

Re: ASD will not actuate

I have a smec and I disconnected both the 60 and 14 pin connectors during drain down test.
So I think I need to diconnect main harness connector under dash to see if it clears.

Re: ASD will not actuate

Disconnecting the LM should be your next step.

Re: ASD will not actuate

Hey Evil thanks for offer. Would have posted back sooner but have been working 70 hours a week lately.
At any rate the problem with car seemed to have fixed its self which we all know isn't really fixed.
I had jumped ASD over to run car and decided to remove jumper while car was running. It stayed running and restarted consistently there after. Not wanting to get stranded on the road and haveing to work so much I did not drive car for about a week and a half.
Went out to start last night and found battery to be dead. and I mean dead.
So I have charged it up and started testing for drain on battery this is what I have found
Meter set for DC current
Testing between - batt post and - batt cable. Positive still connected . 1.3 amps
Alll harness plugs relays fuses and ECM connectors and alt feed unplugged or removed. 1.1 amp.
I attribute the .2 amp drop to pulling fuses for radio and traveler.
It of course drops to 0 amps when I unplug blk connector to pos. term.
Not sure if this has anything to do with ASD issue but I guess it could.
When I say I disconnected everything I mean everything.
All plugs behind battery.
All relays under hood
All fuses and relays at fuse block.

Re: ASD will not actuate

You're already set up for 3 bar, correct? I have a FWD stage 5 sitting on a shelf if you want to try another controller.

Technically, you could use a 2 bar cal to test the ASD. It just won't run correctly. But the ASD will actuate the same as a 3 bar.

Re: ASD will not actuate

Thanks Naj. I have not tried to start car with ADS jumped. But will try it here in a few. Heat index is 107 here in eastern Virginia and I just got off work.
Again thanks a lot for the help.

Re: ASD will not actuate

More and more this sounds like a controller issue.

I assume with the ASD manually actuated the car will start and run normally.
If this is correct...

You can control the ASD Relay ground side yourself with a toggle/panel switch inside the vehicle until you are able to find another controller.

The pro's...
1)Car will run
2)This also doubles as a vehicle theft shutoff switch.

The con's...
1)The ASD will not function as its intended purpose to shut off the fuel and ignition systems in case of an accident where the engine stops running.

Re: ASD will not actuate

Grounding test.
From fuel rail to 1-15..2 Ohms
From fuel rail to 1-16. .2 Ohms
From fuel rail to 1-5 . .2 Ohms
From fuel rail to batt - .2 ohms effectively.

Re: ASD will not actuate

So in conclusion.
Test resistance from ASD Bl/Yl to 1-58 on 60 pin connector
Test /check controller grounds from grounding point to controller.

Re: ASD will not actuate

So you are saying...
1)That allowing the controller to control the ground side of the ASD gave a barely audible tone and light.
2)When manually actuating the ASD by grounding the DB/YL wire at the diagnostic connector gave a loud tone and brightly lit lamp.

If that is correct then that tells me...
1)Both power feeds into the ASD relay are OK with the proper voltage or manually actuating the ASD relay would not make a difference.
2)The ASD relay itself is OK or manually actuating would not make a difference.
3)The issue is with Ground Side Control and/or a Bad Controller Ground.
a)Excessive Resistance in the DB/YL wire from the ASD Relay to the Controller.
b)Excessive Resistance on Controller Ground Circuits.
c)Terminals at Controller ASD Ground Side Control or Controller Ground Circuits are Corroded/Spread/Cracked/Broken/Pushed Out.
d)Faulty Controller

Re: ASD will not actuate

Ok. Just tried KO no jumpers and relay buzzed (chattered)for a sec. It did this a couple of times and then quit doing anything at all.
Yet when jumped relay works flawlessly pump runs and all that.
Battery is plenty charged as well.

Re: ASD will not actuate

Ok so we are starting over and thats best.
*So Probe to DG/BK and batt and KO = barely audible buzzing tone from tester. light portion of toner barely lights. Lasts for one sec.
*When jumped to ground via blue and yellow at diagnostic connector = Good loud solid tone.

Re: ASD will not actuate

Seems as if we are getting in to deep without any results, seems we have missed something.
We do know the ASD relay will actuate manually.
Starting over...
1)Is there power on the DG/BK Output Wire at the ASD Relay for 1 second with initial key on?

Re: ASD will not actuate

I did both of these tests with all engine harness connectors behind battery and injector connectors unplugged.
