1986 Daytona Turbo Z engine needed!

:bang head

So the wife went joyriding in the '86 Daytona Turbo Z and now it's constantly overheating.

Mechanics are telling me that it would be best to R&R the engine, so now I'm trying to find price and availability for a 2.2L w/turbo (4-bolt) LONG block.

If you know of a website where this can be ordered, that'd be the top! Would prefer new over used, but you get what you get.

Also looking for the power side view mirrors as the Driver's side housing is cracked pretty bad and want the mirror s to match.

Hate to junk this car over this little stuff! Still has under 97K miles on it...

Why do you need to rebuild it? Has it been confirmed to be trashed?

do you just plan to replace the motor completely?
Probably needs a headgasket or maybe the t-stat is stuck shut.

My sentiments exactly. I don't understand why they would say he needs a rebuild. But idk how badly its overheated.
You can overheat a 2.2 pretty bad before you do any damage to the bottom end.

Yeah the worst damage he lookin at is probably in the head if any at all. honestly the only bad damage I've ever heard from overheating are if they have no coolant whatsoever lol, and even then I've heard tales of cars running with no coolant and then starting right back up after cooling off for a while lol. No joke.
Ummm....it's not a stuck thermostat, but thanks for the suggestion. And we've torn past the head, and the bottom half is trashed, so the consensus is to go ahead and replace the engine - so I'm still searching for a long block, but doesn't necessarily have to include the turbo.

My other thought was to replace with the intercooled engine found in the '87 charger - I've got the spec sheets and part list from the GLHS I had - thinking about making the Daytona a sleeper...

But right now, just want a valid locale to get the replacement engine....
Source one from the JY, or have yours rebuilt in town. Otherwise you are looking at close to 1000 or more buying from a vendor on here.

Could come up here I know where a few motors are. And drop me a line sometime, if you decide to get rid of the tona I'd be interested in it

Leary of sourcing one from the junkyard, plus the additional fun of getting it out of there as most are still in the vehicles. Car is the wife's toy and she is adamant about replacing the whole engine (it is her money) as we don't know anyone in the Indianapolis area that could rip the engine all of the way down to find and fix the issue (and of course, put it all back together).

so again, just looking for a link that has either a long-block (preferred) or short-block 2.2L with turbo. Would even consider an inter-cooled engine even though those weren't available in the '86 Turbo Z.

Confirmed trashed, not just a headgasket or stuck tstat. Now just looking for the replacement engine.
did you find an engine? PM me. I have a low mileage 2.2 plus an extra low mileage'86 cylinder head and ALL internals for sale. I have an '85 Laser XT that I had swapped a T2 at 78K miles. Always ran on Mobil 1.
I have a 1988 t1 block rebuilt about 20k ago in excellent condition. pulled from a known well running car only reason for pulling was car was beyond saving. 350.00 plus shipping everything minus manifolds
