I have a 1986 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z CS (Long story & tons of pics) for sale, in USA - New Jersey.

First of all, I apologize for such a long post. I just want to offer some background and as much information I can give about my car.
Hello…before I begin, I’ve been a long time lurker of this forum and is my first time posting here. Unfortunately, I’m posting to sell my 1986 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z CS. I’m somewhat bummed out about selling the Daytona but I think it’s the right time. I’ve had this car since Dec 1985 and drove it while I was in college, but only on nice sunny days. I had a beater ’77 Mercury Colony Park wagon to drive during inclement weather. Actually, the only time this car saw snow or rain was the day we picked it up from the dealer, Warnock Dodge in East Hanover, NJ. I was upset I had to pick it up when it was snowing but I couldn’t wait to bring the car home. I was just so excited since it was my first car that had a turbo and somewhat performance oriented. I ordered the car with the radio delete package although it came with factory speakers installed. At the time, I had an Alpine head unit that I wanted to install along with a pair of Boston Acoustics 761 component speakers, Denon Amps and two 10” Kicker subs.
I drove the Daytona for a few years (up to the mid 90’s). In 1992, I bought a used 1986 VW GTi’s and started to lose interest on the Daytona. I still cared for the Daytona but I didn’t drive it as much. I just loved the GTi that I just kept driving it. At this point I decided to pull the registration and insurance off the Daytona to save some money. From that day on the Daytona stayed inside my parents garage under a car cover till 2008. I remember adding “Stabil” to the tank and stored it with fresh Mobil 1 synthetic 10w30 and fresh coolant. I would occasionally start it up and drive it up and down our street, luckily we lived at the end of a cul-de-sac. As years past my parents started storing things in the garage with junk / boxes. It accumulated around the Daytona and made it difficult for me to get to the car without moving all the boxes around. At this point the Daytona was seldom started. The last time I (personally) started this car was probably in 1997.
In 1998, my wife was offered a job in the Silicon Valley, in sunny California. We didn’t think we would stay long in California and eventually come back to NJ within a year or so. Well, 13 years after we’re still here in California. It was just so hard to leave the mild, warm, and sunny weather. Anyway, I figured the Daytona will be safe in my parent’s garage till I decide to have the Daytona shipped to California. As time went on my priorities changed. I decided to leave the Daytona at my parents garage till I figure out what I wanted to do with it. I’m a very sentimental person and selling the Daytona wasn’t an option at the time. The Daytona just reminded me of the good times I had when I was young.
Between 1998 and 2006, my wife and I frequently flew back to NJ to visit my parents and relatives. The first thing I would do every time we arrive at my parent’s house was to take the car cover off the Daytona and look at it. As much as I wanted to get in the car and start it I just couldn’t. My parents had so much boxes stacked next to the car that I couldn’t even open the door. In any case, just looking at it always brought back good memories. Unfortunately, my dad passed away in 2006. My sister and I had a fall out about the inheritance and ownership of the house. By 2008, my sister took ownership of the house and her “Scumbag” (pardon my language) husband decided to unleash a power trip and demanded to have all my possessions taken out of the house. At the time, I was in California and couldn’t leave to pack my things in NJ. I had to ask my relatives and friends to move my things for me into a garage I rented nearby. This means moving the Daytona too.
This is where I was astonished. When my friends pulled the car out of my parent’s garage they said it was like looking at a time capsule. They remember the times when we used to cruise around with it, especially driving down the shore on the weekends. They were pessimistic about the car starting. They checked all the fluids and dropped a battery in. To their surprise the car started after a few turns of the key. Frankly, I was stunned it started up with old fuel. They said the car idled fine and ran smoothly. They drove it up and down the street and other than a little flat spotting on the tires it ran fine. The tranny shifted well and everything seemed to work. Not sure about the A/C, I don’t think they tested it. Just to note, for it to be driven safely on the streets all the fluids need to be changed. It was just nice to see it breath back to life. Too bad I wasn’t there to see that moment. Looks like storing it in the garage rather than outside paid off.
The Daytona was then brought to the garage I was renting. That’s where it sits to this date (2008-2013). I myself haven’t seen the car in person since 2006. This is where the era of my Daytona ends. After fighting myself to keep the car forever It’s time to let it go. So many people ask why I held on to it this long, it’s not an exotic car or a rare classic car. Like I said before, I’m a very sentimental person and the Daytona represents my youth. Besides I wouldn’t be getting rich selling it. Too many priorities in life and health issues are a few reasons for me to finally give up the car. I’ve contemplated shipping it out to California but it’s just not cost effective. I just want the car to go to a good home where the car will be appreciated as much as I did. I’m asking $2,500 for the car. I know the car’s fluids will need to be changed and some seals may have to be replaced. The car is all original except for the aftermarket pop-up sunroof the dealer installed a few months after I bought it. Now, I regret having that sunroof installed but I was young and naïve back then. It also has the original “Air Fences” plastic air dam / side skirt kit. The only parts replaced where the alternator and front brake pads / rotors. Periodic 3,000 mile oil and oil filter changes. I also installed a set of Boston Acoustics 761 component speakers on the front door. The rear hatch glass and rear quarter windows were tinted back in 1986, no fading. The front windows were tinted too but had to remove it due to getting pulled over so many times. The car has less than 50,000 original miles. It’s never been in an accident. It does have a small door ding on the right door that I got back in 1986. I never forget that day. At the time I didn’t want them to bondo and repaint so I left it alone. If they had PDR back then I would have done that.
Unfortunately, I only have a short window to show the car to those interested. I will be flying back to NJ from California on May 18–26, 2013. The car is not currently registered so it will have to be towed or trailered to your destination. I do hope the car goes to a good home, to someone who’ll enjoy the car and appreciate it. If I don’t sell this car before I go back to California I might have to pass it on to family members. I’m just afraid they won’t know what to do with it. My last option would be to bring it back to California. I know I mentioned earlier the shipping cost isn’t cost effective but I may have to kick myself in the ass and give in. I can’t let the car just rot away. Shipping it back to California would be my last and final resort which I hope I won’t have to do.

Hey proturbo...I'll tell you what, for you and only you, my special price for you is $6,000. How about that?! Does that price make you feel any better?
Well, I'm not surprised. I was expecting to get post from people like you. First of all, it's none of your business how much I want to sell my car for and what I paid for storing it. The car was stored at my parent's garage for most of the its' years so I didn't have to pay anything. The last 5 years it was stored in a rented garage with all my other things I left in NJ and rent was reasonable. It's my car and that's how much I priced it for. I do admit I may not have done enough research on the value of the car but from my perspective that's how much I think the car's worth.
Yes, I had many memories with the car and it's all sentimental value. No one going to pay me extra for that. Memories will always remain the same no matter how much I sell the car. Yes, the car is rust free because I took care of it. I was fortunate enough to have a 2nd car during the time I had the Daytona. During the winter months the Daytona stayed safely in the garage. The car is in great shape but it sat for all these years. Do you think the car won't need any minor work before hitting the streets? I'm sure all the fluids will need to be changed, the brake pads / shoes are probably hard as a rock and the tires will surely need replacing. I'm being upfront and realistic with everyone about the car. Why do you think my original post was so long. Didn't I explain enough? Do you think someone would pay $6,000 for a car that sat idle for all these years compared to someone selling a low mileage, regularly driven car? I think that's a no brainer!
Besides, those who are interested in the car will have a chance to look at it when I arrive from California. I'm not going to take anyone's money without them looking at it first. I'll leave it up to the buyer to decide. I only have a window of a week before I head back to California to find my Daytona a good home and I think pricing it accordingly will help me do that. I've already have several e-mails from interested buyers who I know will take good care of the car.
So...proturbo...my offer of $6,000 still stands just for you!
