got a rebuilt 1991 2.5 non turbo short block made into turbo engine with zero miles to replace my blown 89 TD voyager engine. From what ive read the oil pump replacement is a tricky situation, im no expert on this, just wondering if i should try to have mechanic rebuild the stock original dodge oil pump (if theres a kit), or maybe you guys can recommend an aftermarket pump (part #)? THX!

Oil Pumps are the same for TBI and Turbo cars.

Melling and Sealed Power are Brand Names I am familiar with.

thx im sure the rebuilder didnt put good pump in, i hear its very important to use quality ones on these engines. Maybe ill go with repairing the original dodge pump if its doable

There's a lot of bad info in this thread.
If you run a bearing dry in a lawnmower, you'll damage it. The specific power output of the engine really doesn't matter here.
Just because the pickup can suck oil doesn't save the engine. A quick, cool return path, small galleys and modest volume requirements are the real reason.

And exactly what was the bad info, there was never anything mentioned about engine damage.

According to Ed Peters, be careful when installing the "G gear" correctly. The bevel on the ring goes down into the housing. Installing incorrectly can cause issues. He also recommends to remember to use loctite anarobic sealant between the pump and the block as there is no factory seal for this. Finally he recommends to place a new oring on the oil pump pickup as this is commonly missed. PS also the pickup needs to be "second knuckle"(5/8") from the bottom of the pan to the intake of the pickup. Best to check before the crank is installed.
